Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S

My beloved Nikon 80-200mm AF_S f/2.8 is now up for sale pending the delivery of a new lens bought for a Very Reasonable price. This is a superb lens in excellent condition and is very fast to focus and unbelieveably sharp. The glass is clean and free from dust and fungus, there are a couple of very minor scuff marks (and I mean minor - you really have to look for them) on the body and the usual marks on the tripod foot where my monopod has been screwed in.

Ken Rockwell has said about this lens:

"This was Nikon's best telephoto zoom made from 1999 - 2004. I use it a lot."

"This is an extremely sharp lens. It is one of the sharpest lenses I have ever used."

As you will probably know all of my equestrian shots on here have been taken with this lens as well as many others, here is some examples to show you how sharp it is....

The lens:

Unfortunately I don't have the box or original papers.

£600 to include insured P&P.

Ian, I think it's the mount ... our D50's will take D mount lenses, but not the AF-S lenses ... I think ... anyone clarify more, or correct me

Can't help with that one I'm afraid, I've no idea but I can say I have used it on my D200 and D70 without any issues.

The AF-S is considered a pro-spec lens which has a Silent Wave Motor (SWM) for faster auto-focussing, I believe the AF-S contains a focusing motor built in to the lens (rather than using the auto focus motor built in to the camera body to drive for focusing). The lens also has an AF lock feature which makes it possible to lock onto a chosen focal point from the lens without reverting using the camera AF Lock function.

Hope this helps.

All Nikons can use this lens.

It's the D40 and D40x that have a more restricted lens choice. I.E. they HAVE to be AF-S. The D40/D40x don't have their own focus drive motor so need the lens to have one.

Re: Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8 AF-S

Thanks for clarifying OP, I did subsequently find that out, by looking in my manual and should have posted the update.

Although most Nikon lenses will fit most Nikon cameras, some features may be lost on some lenses with some camera models. Or so it says in my manual.
