Given the price of a new 400D right now, I don't think I'd worry about a second hand one. If someone is selling a 400D already I would have to be suspicious. Could be they chose to upgrade of course but new ones are excellent prices.

WarehouseExpress.com are selling for £448 body only which is a fantastic price for a camera of this quality.

I'd also be suspicious of anyone selling a camera that has only been out for a few weeks too. (Not from this Forum). Not many people sell stuff that is brand new unless there is a demand that outstrips supply, but I don't think we are in that situation here.

If you want a secondhand 400D specifically, I suspect you are going to have to wait for quite a while.

there is one on ebay and the person says the only reson they are selling due to
winning it in a comp,and he has got a 400d his self so thats the only reson for
selling.

what do you think of that story? what should i look for if i go pick it up.

If you are going the Ebay route it may be worth you keeping an eye on the Canon outlet. I have just checked and they currently don't have any 400D listed but they do update the listings daily.

body only. i will have to find out,its not to far from my house so i mite

Ryan - I am a sad old git, and treat e-bay 'bargains' with a great deal of suspicion. If you had just bought a 400D, would you enter a competiton to win one?

Have you checked on what other things this guy is selling? As I understand it, feedback can be forged, so take care here. A good e-bay 'rule' is to only spend what you can afford to loose.

In the ads forum I recently flagged up someone selling a D200 and a 17-55 f2.8 that allegedly had a shutter count of less than 200, and only four weeks old. The reason for selling was that he could not justify having such a good camera. So why buy it?

Keep an eye on it, but be very cautious. If you can get to meet him, I guess that if he could show you two 400D's it would be more convincing. Even more convincing would be evidence of the competion win. If you could get some info on the comp, you could check to see if he was a winner.

Don't be too eager to part with your money. I bet after christmas you will get new 400D's reduced in the sales and these will represent better value, even if you have to pay a little more.

As a matter of interest, the D200 body is now up to £680 with the (lowered) reserve not met. Less than 7 hours to go.

Bearing in mind the new prices you can now get on these elsewhere, I would not even consider buying this one, even if it is legit.

Just another thought on this subject. Now the D200 is up to £730 with the reserve still not met. This is within £150 -200 from what you can buy this body for on line from UK sellers, and for me it just aint worth it.

For me to be interested, it would have to be going for around 30-40% less than new, bearing in mind that you would probably not have a warranty.

So, for the 400D, unless you can get one for around £300-ish, I just don't think it is worth it.

I think if this is a new, unused but unwanted gift/prize (yes, I would enter a competition for something I already had - my wife enters hundreds of competitions and has won a fair few things we didn't 'need'. They end up going to friends who do :o)) then you should be perfectly happy to pay between £350 and £375 given how recently this camera came out.

If you are able to go to the person's house, it is HIGHLY unlikely he is going to rip you off.... crooks don't invite you to their homes!

If it is brand new, make certain it still has in the box the guarantee details. If that isn't in there you can't register it for warranty purposes.

See it with a battery in it, switch it on, take a photo to a memory card. Even if it is body only, if he has a 400D already, he has lenses so you can try it out :o)

There ARE genuine bargains on Ebay and 99% of the people selling ARE genuine sellers. Yes, there are crooks out there but actually if you use sensible caution without being paranoid, you really won't go too far wrong, especially going to the sellers home.
