Hi Steve - as you are upgrading from the 300D would it not be better to find a bit more mullah and get a 30D?

Defo think about the 30D. I've just got mine still playing around with it. It's a cracking bit of kit and oh oh that large screen on the back is so worth the extra dosh.

But what's the difference in price of a new 30D vs s/h 20D ? Could be enough to put towards some decent glass

So the difference would be the cost of a lens. Steve may be looking for used though in which case he can save some mullah by getting a used 20D.

sorry havent been on to reply! thanks for the feedback so far!

i am considering both, if i can find a 2nd hand 20d id probably buy it but if buying new......i can only see myself begging dad for a little help for the 30d!! the price difference is not that much to buy new which is slightly baffling..ive read the reviews on here though so i kind of worked out the differences! if i wasnt a student i probly would go for the 30d but its not cheap these days!! lol

p.s id be keeping the flash and current lens but how much better is the 17-85mm IS USM lens than the ordinary 18-55....i had noticed the 18-55 was quite poor for motorsport photos! maybe its just me!

The 17-85 is a much better lens, its better built, has a wider focal range, and of course its got IS which can make getting sharp shots in lower light conditions a possibility.

However it costs considerably more aswell, but it will certainly be alot more useful to you than the basic 18-55 if you can stretch to it.

Wouldn't a decent telephoto zoom be more applicable for motorsport shots (eg. 200mm upwards) ?

If you can wiat a little longer you might get a flood of used Canon DSLR's hitting the market after they announced the new 400D today.

Looking at the specs I wouldn't be suprised to see quite a few change.

yea dave i have the canon f4L 70-200mm USM but i wouldnt be selling it! i would like a 300mm but thats one for the future!
im defo on for the 17-85 usm id say it would be well worth the extra dosh!

where is the best place to search for 2nd hand cameras? ebay? as well as here of course!!

EBAY is the worst place to buy cameras, as they are over priced Best to look out on the Photography forums for anyone selling

is the Canon Outlet on ebay a safe enough source, from what i read it's not repaired cameras more than camera that have been opened and returned? has anyone ever purchased off the store?
