Alternative to Virgin.net ISP
Well I went recently with Virigin.net plan of up to 8Mbps, but found I was only getting 800Kbps
. Found the customer Services extremely poor, plus they expected me to pay 25p per min to get Technical Support to run through some tests to see if it was their fault or not Not impressed with Service, so looking elsewhere. Anybody have good recommendation of ISP at 1MB speed with say up to 3GB per month bandwidth allowance ? |

Re: Alternative to Virgin.net ISP
I'm very happy with the service I get from Andrews & Arnold. Their tech support is on a normal phone number, but is office hours only (email, SMS & IRC support is usually available outside office hours). Their headline prices are a bit higher than some, but you do get a lot of hidden extras - their bandwidth limits are office hours download only, you get an included .co.uk domain, etc.
They're the only ISP I've ever delt with where the boss of the company has phoned ME up to tell me there's a problem and that they're working on it! ![]() AAISP broadband internet |

Re: Alternative to Virgin.net ISP
I used to be with Tiscali, but dumped them for the same reasons - you can only call them up on a premium rate number regardless of whether the problem is your fault or not. Also their call centre is in China or somewhere equally distant.
I'm now with BT. No problems. Call centre in Britain. Freephone 24/7, (but I have not had to use it). Can only get 5.5mb broadband in my location, but I'm happy with that. |

Re: Alternative to Virgin.net ISP
Well Virgin is only £15 for 1MB , with 3GB allowance. I used to be with Pipex when working who were excellent , but at £24.99 a bit hard to swallow for leisure use. I suppose it's the old costs vs service conundrum

Re: Alternative to Virgin.net ISP
all 8mb dsl services are dodgy as atm. bt are having issues which have been going on for a couple of months now.
I use nildram (now owned by pipex) and while I occasionally get issues I've found their CS awesome. However it's not cheap (is quality ever cheap?) I pay just under £30 per month which gives me 50gb per month (any left extra rolls over to the next month) at whatever rate BT can handle... in the mornings it's usually about 5.5mb and the afternoons it slows to about 2.5 - 3.5mb. Should be noted I pay a little extra to get a static IP. As for premium or national rate numbers... take a look @ SAYNOTO0870.COM - Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Numbers |
