Re: cheapest
its an abit NF7 and has two fans on it the cpu fan sitting on the heat sink and the chip set fan ( new one) sitting just to the left of it. Quote.
Very similar to my home built using a MSI MoBo. Monitors speed and temperature. Check the replacement one has a 3 pin connector with three wires. Black & Red for the motor 12volts. and another colour probably yellow wire for the tachometer, to enable the rev's to be monitored. Regards Brian Last edited by brian wright22; 21-03-2008 at 16:38. |

Re: cheapest
The picture I posted was just an example.
I take it yours looks like this ![]() If so I wonder what he put on the mainboard where the fan is shown in the picture is, or did they change the main chip ( cpu ) fan. I can see the one on the mainboard is 2 wire so no tacho, I would imagine it can't monitor that one. As a quick test you can run your machine and look in bios whilst you quickly dab your fingeron the fan and stop it. You must do this for only a second otherwise damage may occur. If it is that fan then it may be awkward to change and may have not been replaced with the correct rated fan. ![]() If he hasn't replaced the main fan then he should have done. |

Re: cheapest
right................. well im back on my own computer Alan just fitted a new CPU fan on top of hte heat sink, that is the one that was monitored, the one the shop replaced is the one sitting directly to the left of the processor in the picture.
at the moment all seems well and its very very quiet! the quietest its been for a long time. the cpu fan is hooked up to the monitoring prog and running at just over 4000 rpm temp siting at approc 46 degrees for the cpu and 26 for the system. its only been on for a little while tho so time will tell but can everyone keep everything crossable crossed pls and thanx to everyone for their help and suggestions. Re: cheapest
aww thanx Iain, not a prob tho it cost £4.99 was cheaper buying one with the heat sink attached than it was buying a fan only so alan took the fan off the heat sink and just replaced that,

Re: cheapest
Beggers belief
They changed the one on the mainboard not one on the CPU Jeez Roy Rogers was a better cowboy than them. They should have replaced the CPU fan first, thats the one that usually gets clogged op with dust or the bearings dry out when hot and casue it to seize. The other one I'd bet you could stop and it wouldn't have much effect. I have to be honest I'm not a fan of ABIT myself, but they do seem to run even with the little fan seized, one I had did a long time ago. The fan on my AMD64 AM2 4800+ is overkill, I didn't used the supplied one but for £20 my cpu runs almost cold. I hope now that everything stays okay 46 degrees is perfectly okay for a cpu temp

Re: cheapest
to be fair which i dont really want to be, the chip set fan was seized and not working, but they didint check the cpu fan. the machine shut down as soon as the chip set fan stopped. its sitting at about 51 degrees now., what kind temp can it run at before i should worry?

Re: cheapest
CPU's won't be destroyed until about 80c
However they run best around the 50 - 55 degrees level. The CPU fan and heatsink assembly should really have been changed as a unit BUT, the lugs on the CPU socket can snap off if not replaced carefully. I don't think you'll have any more problems but just monitor it for a few more hours and see how you go
