Dell to sell through Tesco

Dell to sell through Tesco
Twins finally meet
By Martin Veitch: Friday, 21 December 2007, 6:04 PM

BE AFRAID rival PC makers, be very afraid: Dell is teaming up with Tesco to sell PCs in the UK, Ireland, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

This is the most obvious combination since Tweedledum met Tweedledee and said “Hey, I’m liking like your look.” Tesco is famous for supply-chain bending flexibility, torrential volume, ultra-low cost and occasional slips in customer service. Dell is… well, pretty much ditto.

Continues... Dell to sell through Tesco - The INQUIRER

Re: Dell to sell through Tesco

The good news is that it will be easier to take it back when it breaks.

Actually I reckon it's a good move. Tesco won't want a load of after-sales hassle with faulty machines, so there will an incentive for Dell to address any reliability issues.

The people who need to be really afraid are PC World, Dixons, etc.

Have a Dell Dimension 9150 for about 2 years now, with no probs at all. All for anything that drives prices down further

Dell is second biggest manufacturer & retailer in the world, almost at number 1.

I can’t see this move happening, it is not part of the DELL’s way of doing business, All machines are built in Limerick in Ireland and shipped out straight to the user or business, this has been very successful for them.

Yeah, and to be fair their business side is not too bad - it's the retail which is rubbish (and because they can't be bothered to be consistent I can't be bothered to recommend them!). Be interesting to see if Tesco can knock them into shape

with respect, you're a bit behind the times. Dell lost #1 spot to HP and they had a rethink on their business model. They've been selling retail in the USA for ages - Wal-mart or someone like that iirc.

Ah here it is

Plus there are others: -
Dell set to sell at Best Buy - The INQUIRER
Dell opens posh shop in Russia - The INQUIRER
Dell goes straight to the shops in China - The INQUIRER

I would not say I am behind the times, I am delving into this as I am very close to Dell, If you know what I mean!
