"Ebuyer"

Hi all,
I am due for a new computer [next year when Vista gets it's service pack I think].Anyone used this 'crew' for anything?:Ebuyer - Cheap Computers, Laptops, Digital Cameras, TVs & more!

The Acer brand seems to have good 'specs'.May get a lap-top and it will be used mainly for photo work though not exclusively. Cheers,
John.

Re: "Ebuyer"

Just been setting up a laptop for someone: Acer Extensa 4220 with Vista. Have to say it's pretty good. They only need it for Word/email and it won't get bashed about, so is pretty good for that (not enough oompf! for much else!).

Cheap and cheerful - which I got from Dabs as they've always been efficient, prices aren't bad and they've proper descriptions of their items (still haven't worked out the eBuyer specs!)

Re: "Ebuyer"

I have an Acer 5612 which is just over a year old and has been fine so far. The only real quirk is that the disk is formatted into two FAT32 partitions plus a hidden partition used by the Acer backup routine. It would have been better if they'd used NTFS, but you can't reformat the system partition without losing the OS and everything else.

Re: "Ebuyer"

Well, the 'specs' I see for Acer [from a sales flyer] are eg:

Acer Veriton M410 Desk top
@£349=1Gb Ram/250Gb Hard Disc/AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core processor 4000+ and monitor bought separately.

Acer TravelMate 7510 lap-top
@£499=15inch monitor/1GB Ram/160GB Hard Disc/AMD Turion 64X2 Dual Core Mobile Technology TL-52

By upping my budget £100 you get more Ram and stuff and on the lap-top a 17inch monitor[I use 17in at present with my desk-top].
My present 'system' is a humble 256MB Ram and 40Gb Hard Disc so practically any computer around this price point is going to be an improvement I would imagine.

Re: "Ebuyer"

Have used them a fair few times due to good prices, but must admit their returns process is a pain in the a$$. As long as it doesn't pack up you'll be fine

Re: "Ebuyer"

A company I worked for used them coz of the prices - stopped about 6 years ago due to the appauling customer service. I remember one day queueing for over 3 hours trying to return faulty goods.

They may well have improved by now but I'd certainly never shop there.

FWIW Water, if you are considering an Acer laptop, Asda are doing an Acer dual-core one (don't know exact model) for about £449. Bloke in the office has just bought one.

I've no knowledge of the brand, but Viking Direct (reputable office supplies company) are offering a Medion 2070 with 15.4" screen, 2GB RAM, 160GB HD, DVD re-writer, Nvidia 6150, Wi-Fi, AMD Turion TL50 and Vista Home Premium for £399 + VAT.

Re: "Ebuyer"

Can vouch for there appalling customer services had a very bad experience last year when trying to return some wireless gear which didn't work on install. Long story short i did get the right result in the end but was amazed by the customer service rep's attitude to the extent i refused to continue speaking with her and ask to speak to her manager who was only mildly more competant..........there are many firms offering similar deals but who appreciate peoples custom a lot more!!!!

have a look at these

Microdirect.co.uk
Komplett.co.uk
Novatech
Saverstore.com
Rlsupplies.co.uk
Overclockers UK
Scan.co.uk
dabs.com - PC Hardware, Components, Software, Digital Cameras, MP3 Players

I've used them all with no probs!!

Re: "Ebuyer"

Just in from work so thanks for the input.Looks like a body swerve for Acer then.I may just go to PCWorld as its local if any problems occur and that in itself is a big plus in its' favour. As mentioned though,I will be hanging fire till Vista gets 'sorted'.I may also get CS3 [or CS4 if it's out] as my brother can get it cheap [apparently] being in full time education. And perhaps a noise reduction programme would be nice to have. And a Monitor Calibrator. And a better lens [or two].And a digital radio. Are you listening Santa?
