Every one's a Winner
Just picked up my new toy this morning, an Epson 3800 A2 Printer. I'm stunned, I've just printed 7 images on different papers choosing the right profiles etc. in Photoshop and every one of them looks just like the image on screen (well just a tiny bit duller).
I've never had a printer that was this easy to setup before and the results are incredible. I really hope it continues to be this good and I might start enjoying making prints again. thanks for listening. cheers Dan |

Re: Every one's a Winner
Wow, an A2, how much does this one run to? My A3+ printer has served me well and I think she who must be obeyed would choke if I suddenly insisted on putting an A2 in here but you never know <g>
Cheers, Rob |

Re: Every one's a Winner
Epson are currently doing a £150.00 off if you already have an Epson A3 printer, I had an old broken 2100 which counted, this brought the cost to £780 from Park Cameras.
Now that sounds like a lot (and it is) but the new Epson R2880 A3 is £559.00 and comes with a set of cartridges that contain somewhere between 11-13 ml of ink depending on which review you read. The 3800 comes with a full set of 80ml ink tanks, by the time you've bought the amount of ink for the R2880 that you get with the 3800 the cost is not very different, in fact I think the 3800 is cheaper. Assuming they both use the same amount of ink per page (although I think the 3800 uses slightly less) the ongoing ink costs are less as well. In addition the 3800 wastes less ink as every time you replace one of those little 2880 carts all the others flush .5ml of ink. The down side is that you're supposed to use the ink within 6 months of inserting the cartridge and I'm not sure I'd get through it quickly enough but there are many people happily using the ink 18 months later so I'll assume that won't be an issue. Finally you have to have a big space as this is a big printer, but it goes on the network so I don't need to have it next to my PC. cheers Dan

Re: Every one's a Winner
The really serious expense is having to buy a bigger house to hang all the prints.

Of course for anyone intelligent the cheapest way to get excellent prints is to send them away but I enjoy having control over the end to end process. cheers Dan |
