Microsoft acknowledge new '0-day' exploit in active X controls in IE6 and IE7

Microsoft is investigating public reports of a vulnerability in the XMLHTTP 4.0 ActiveX Control, part of Microsoft XML Core Services 4.0 on Windows. Attackers are already attempting to use the reported vulnerability; people would simply have to visit an attacker’s maliciously crafted Web site to be at risk.

Danish security firm Secunia have rated the flaw as 'Extremely critical'.

The problem does not affect Mozilla or Opera web browsers and you might consider using those for general browsing instead of Internet Explorer until a patch is issued by Microsoft.
