Mozilla has released an update to the Firefox web browser which is intended to fix problems which were introduced with the major security update last month to version 2.0.0.2. Most copies of Firefox should automatically update themselves to the new version - but you can check now using the command [Help][Check for Updates]. The command [Help][About Mozilla Firefox] will show the current version - it should be 2.0.0.3.

Firefox 2.0.0.3 and Firefox 1.5.0.11 also fix a file transfer protocol (FTP) security bug, as explained in an advisory from the Mozilla Foundation. This bug could have allowed an external hacker to scan machines inside a secure firewall and map out what systems were installed in a secured network area.

Mozilla issued patches for 40 Firefox bugs in the last six months of 2006, 26% fewer in number than the 54 fixes released for Internet Explorer (IE). In 2007, Mozilla has fixed nine bugs in Firefox; Microsoft has fixed four in IE.

Mozilla has also announced there will be no updates for the older Firefox version 1.5 after 24 April. Users are encouraged to upgrade to Firefox 2 before the support expires.



I updated my Firefox install to 2.0.0.3 from 2.0.0.2 yesterday and have found the latest version to be more stable and less resource hungry. So far its has been running flawlessly.

Updated a couple of days ago and all running well.

Unlike Skype, which I updated a day ago and is crashing out regularly (luckily found my old Beta copy on my system, so reinstalled that!) v3.1.0.147 dated 16/03/07 is the troublemaker
