Forum problems

Hi everyone,

I am starting to have some serious issues when reading through forums. Not pixalo but others. Others such as http://www.mercedesforum.com/ & Benzworld.org - Mercedes Benz Discussion Forum

What happens is on both these forums, the headers or titles is displayed and the rest of the page takes about 5 minutes to draw. The benzworld is a little quicker than mercedesforum by about 5 minutes

Don't really know what's up with that. I have tried both these forum from computer at work and they are just fine. I mean normal speed. I have tried using another pc at the house connected to a second port on the wireless router and that too has the same problem. Then I tried connecting a laptop wirelessly with Vista on and the same problem

I can't figure it out. Anyone has any pointers where to look? I have deleted all the cookies but nothing helped.

*just thinking out loud* since 3 computers at home are having the same issues, then it must be something wrong with the wireless router (linksys) cause outside the house, the forums are ok

Re: Forum problems

I take it you've done all the usual things and reset your modem and pc, tryed turning off your phishing filters etc.

I have recently had a problem with Nortons phishing filter spending ages testing sites, drove me bonkers

Re: Forum problems

I don't know who hosts those forums but if it's ProBoards they did some work on them a few days ago and I was experiencing similar problems to you on another forum I use.

All I had to do was clear my cache files and everything was fine again.

Re: Forum problems

^^^^ That sounds like the best idea. If you're not getting problems with any other sites, it doesn't sound like a modem fault. In Firefox, Tools > Clear Private Data, and then either Tools or Edit (depending on your OS) > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and clear out all of them or at least the ones for the sites affected.

Re: Forum problems

I have cleared everything possible... cookies, cache and private data also. I really don't *think* that its a pc issue as I have tried 3 different ones.

Also, I did try disabling anti-phishing and scanners that I have. I even disabled the whole program. BTW, I have NOD32

Re: Forum problems

Have you tried running a traceroute to the site to see where the problem lies?

Open a command prompt and type in tracert' and the website url then hit return...

for pixalo it would be
Code:
tracert www.pixalo.com
Your computer will do a full trace from your location to the server running the website and list in milliseconds the time each 'hop' takes. If any of them take a long time that will tell you where the problem lies along the route.

Re: Forum problems

Its definitely an internet routing problem then and not something with your personal equipment. It may be due to your ISP or the internet routing in general.

You should drop the forum admins a PM with the above details so that their server guys can assess the situation and see about getting their DNS servers altered.

Also it may be possible for you to re-route your connection to them by using a different DNS service other than your ISP. Give OpenDNS | Providing A Safer And Faster Internet a try, its free and far more reliable than your ISP is ever likely to be. Its what I use all the time.

Hope that helps

If you are running it the cmd window it should not close once its complete.

On windows it can be found via START>PROGRAMS>ACCESSORIES>Command Prompt

I've just done a tracert from my location here and got virtually identical results with it timing out from hop 16 onwards. Basically there is nothing you can do but be re-assured the issue is not at your end.
