Fuji and DXO

Today I was wondering how to get the best from my Fuji images I took on Saturday as DXO wont "see" the Raw or jpegs. After my trial of the camera shooting jpegs so the distortions, C.As etc. were taken care of by the camera as I couldn't use DXO to process the RAW images, I saved them as Tiffs.
Just to see what happened I tried the Tiffs in DXO and.........It saw them and I have full use of all the features as if they were Raw's . So I'm going to see if I can get any more detail from the images today. If I can it will great as the colours etc will still be as original, the opinions on the web seem to be that there is not a RAW conversion software that can give results much better than the in camera corrected jpegs.
Well here goes

Re: Fuji and DXO

Yes some more vibrant colours. The skin tones on my current monitor look a bit red now though. Original seemed better for skin. Could be my monitor.

Re: Fuji and DXO

I will have another look at them, I did curves, clear view, and contrast. I have noticed that some people images look a bit red on web posts compared to on my monitor,(Eizo colour edge self calibrating) so I will print one off and see what a print shows. Cheers Chris.

Re: Fuji and DXO

Charles, The DXO image is a way too red and unnatural, the TIFF is much better but is a little on the flat side perhaps a touch more contrast and or a little more saturation.
Colin.

Re: Fuji and DXO

The guy who did my Son's wedding for me was using an X-T1. when I asked him where his Nikon kit was he said that he had ditched the Nikon due to its weight - especially if he was shooting all day or doing back to back jobs.

Why choose Fuji? he said that Fuji has always had a great reputation in the trade for rendering fantastic skin tones - even with jpgs. I can remember the old X pro series that used Nikon bodies and Fuji internals being sought after for this reason when the agreement to use Nikon bodies was ended and for a long time Fuji only produced compacts and bridge cameras.

When the X-T1 came out, many pros turned to it for this reason. Also the lenses are very, very good.

So in your processing bear this in mind. Might be worth only adjusting the background colours when there are people in the shot. Global adjustments will undo perhaps the biggest strength of the Fuji sensor and processing.

Re: Fuji and DXO

I think you are right Graham, I have re visited the original image (jpeg) and after saving as tiff, had another go, using "camera body" not DXO default as the base, it was less red saturated but the skin tone was still not as good as the jpeg.
I may just stick to jpeg fine and save the time processing them, I'm sure the Fuji folk who did the in camera processing settings are far better than me so "if it aint broke I wont fix it".
