Help setting up a website
I have decided to have a play at setting up my own website using photium, to show my underwater images & hopefully sell a few prints.
The nearest that I have ever been involved in websites is uploading a few of my images on here last week, so if anyone has any tips on setting up the Professional looking website, or Do's & dont's etc for a complete beginner I would be eternally grateful. |

Re: Help setting up a website
keep it simple there is nothing worse than getting lost on a site or having to look everywhere for a certain link or page.......

Re: Help setting up a website
Choose backgrounds that complement your pictures and pick a colour for the links that is easily visible.

Re: Help setting up a website
I am currently working on redoing my website and I am using Photoshop CS3 and Dreamweaver CS3 (waiting for CS4
)It is sooo easy do you template in Photoshop and just slice it up and use Dreamweaver to put it all together, If you decide to go this way and need help I can help you in any way I can. I haven't tried Photium, but I do recommend and use 1&1 they have been the great, they also have many, many ready made templates you can use . Last edited by j sotelo; 13-10-2008 at 04:02. |

copy and paste the code, of course there is some coding involved if you want to put the image in a specific place. overall it's not that hard. |

Re: Help setting up a website
Thanks stotelo, I don't realy understand what you mean by most of your comments.
I have a small image/graphic that I want to be able to email to people so that they can put it on there links page, so that people can click on it to go to my website. the only software a I am have is CS3. I am having to go & get ready for my day job now, so will be back this evening. |

Re: Help setting up a website
use this code, substituting the domain name/page location and image location.
<a href="http://www.yourdomain.com/targetpage.html"><img alt="image name" src="http://www.yourdomain.com/image.jpg" /></a> You don't have to do anything to the image, the code is independant. |

I was also expecting, if I was putting a link to someone elses website on my links page, they would email me there graphic with the code embeded in. Last edited by U/W Photographer; 13-10-2008 at 08:33. |

Quote:
a) You send the image to the other person. b) They add the image to their website and add the <a href="your-website-address-here"></a> tags to point back to your website. If someone sends you an image for a link: a) Add the image to your site using the <img></img> tags then wrap the img tags within a <a href="their-website-address-here"></a> tag I'm not aware of any software that will embed the tags to the "image" before you send it out. If you need any more help, drop me a line.

Re: Help setting up a website
Thanks for the info Ian, I started to realise it was more complicated than I first thought, so I emailed Will at Photium who is sorting it out for me.

Re: Help setting up a website
Will from Photium has sorted the code etc for me.
I would highly recommend photium to anyone wanting to set up a template based website, as you probably gathered from my posts I hadn't a clue, but with the photium site it was quite easy even for me on most of the site, the few areas that I got stuck on Will at Photium helped me or sometimes even did the work for me, such as this case with the links. I would recommend photium 100%. |

Re: Help setting up a website
I have decided it was time to put a link to the website on here for comments, I still have a lot of work to do on it, but feel that it is coming along enough.
It started of mainly to showcase my images, with a view to hopefully selling a few prints, but like most things with me I don't do things by halves, and it has escalated into a "hopefully" professional looking website designed at selling my images. Any comments, advice, suggestions, criticisms most welcome. UnderwaterPrints.com Last edited by U/W Photographer; 13-10-2008 at 18:08. |
