How to determine disk load cycles?

Can anyone tell me how to determine hard disk load cycles in Windows XP? (I know how in Linux, but not in Windows.)

By load cycles I mean the number of times a disk has been restarted, either at boot or from hibernation.

Thanks for any advice.

does this help.

How do I find out the Load Cycle Count? (in Windows)? - Yahoo! Answers

and this also seems to have some useful info

Thanks AQ.

Smartmontools is what people use in Linux - I didn't realise there was a Windows version!

Re: How to determine disk load cycles?

Yup, AQ has the answer - tho' a good number of the monitoring tools (there are half a dozen or so) misreport the SMART disk codes, so most of the results are somewhat questionable. They can cause problems too, seeing as they poll disks at a fairly low level

Re: How to determine disk load cycles?

All I really want to do is see if this replacement drive that has just arrived from Samsung is as new as it looks.

Quick turnaround BTW - I posted the duff drive to them on Thursday and got the new one today. So far it seems OK - only another 2 hours to copy the photos from the backup drive.
