Internet security

I have used Norton's and found it very good but it slowed my computer down too much ( 8.5 mins to boot up, 50sec's without).
So now I'm trying "Avast" a free download, it does not have an "anti spam device" as in Norton.
This I miss as I often get as many as 100+ spam e-mails per day.

Any one have any ideas on this!.

What do you use...Kenny

Re: Internet security

I have had similar problems with Norton in the past but the current version I use is fine.

I use BT for Broadband and BT filters the Spam so none gets through to Outlook. I do have to check the spam (stored by BT) every few days because it traps about 1 genuine e-mail every 10 days. BT also provide a comprehensive Norton security package. I did initailly have problems with this but about 6 months ago I deleted everything Norton from my PC using a special Norton utility and reloaded the security package from BT. It had been significantly upgraded and now works very well.

Re: Internet security

I fell out with Norton when it changed a load of registry settings and messed up networking - it needed a special removal utility. I believe the latest versions are better, but in Windows I use AVG anti-virus and AVG anti-spyware.

Tiscali has filters which stop most of the spam, and you can also set your own filters to delete at source - so no need to download. And then there are spam filters in Thunderbird.

Despite all this, some still gets through and it seems to be getting worse.

Re: Internet security

Thanks to every one for your input. It is the spam mail that I really want to get on top of without spending too much money,( my camera has just gone wrong, bound to be expensive)...Kenny

Re: Internet security

I think Norton have overcome the system hogging in the latest versions, but isn't amazing how mud sticks?

Re: Internet security

To get rid of spam email you could do worse than look at Mail Washer. I like it a lot and it works well.
