Keyboard help!
I've just bought a Microsoft Wireless laser 6000 keyboard for work. It's great but I need to remove the detachable palm rest and can't figure out how to do it! And before someone says RTFM - it didn't come with one!
Does anyone have one of these and can tell me how to do it please? |

Re: Keyboard help!
Hi Angela,
The documentation will be on the CD-ROM along with the drivers that came with it. I've had a look at the documentation on the website but there's only the quick start guide, a product guide and a technical data sheet. It could be screwed in, it could be clipped in, I'll carry on looking for something on the web but if the documentation is on the CD that might be your best bet. Matt |

Re: Keyboard help!
I can't see anything to make it sound like it would be screwed in, just try pulling, firmly but not too hard. It might hopefully just pop right out - the clips will probably be in the middle of the keyboard grip so you can't see them on the top or bottom.

Re: Keyboard help!
Matt, thank you so much for your help! The documentation on the website is exactly what comes with the keyboard - so that's no help! I have tried pulling but nothing happens.
I've also tried contacting Microsoft but that was the usual waste of time. |

Re: Keyboard help!
See if you can get a flat headed screwdriver in the gap between the grip and the keyboard and gently prise it in there and see if theres any give. It might detach from just pulling but might be a bit stiff.

Re: Keyboard help!
I find a sledge hammer very useful in situations like this!
I go for the plastic clips option - so prying apart might do it - tho' I obviously absolutely refuse to accept responsibilityn if it all goes horribly wrong and disintegrates....... but I will laugh! ![]() |

Re: Keyboard help!
Angela ,have a look underneath and at the front edge do you see two bits of the rest (about an inch wide) protruding into two cutouts of the base ? . If so there is two small lugs that secure the wider flanges into the base. Get a wide bladed screwdriver to ease out the lugs underneath. The palm rest should remove towards the front edge of the whole keyboard.

Re: Keyboard help!
Brian, thanks very much for that - I don't think mine is quite as you are describing. I seem to have five lug-type bits but I'll give it a go and see what happens!!

Re: Keyboard help!
Sorted at last!! It was, of course, a piece of cake but it took step by step photos from a very kind person at Microsoft to show me how to do it!!
It seems the instruction "push down" can have several different meanings! I thought they meant "push down", when actully, they meant "slide down"...and I'm going to stop right there before this thread ends up being removed!! ![]() |
