Stepson of 17 wants to go into PCWorld on Boxing Day & buy a laptop. I reckon £400 limit (£500 at a push). He's struggling to list his requirements but I reckon

- wireless
- watch DVD films on it
- Media Jukebox
- No games, as they have XBOX 360
- DVD Writer

No idea which models are OK within this price band, so any advice welcome

The Toshiba on the first page looks pretty good for £399 and would certainly meet your criteria TOSHIBA EQUIUM A200-1VO Laptops - Cheap TOSHIBA Laptops.. Buy the TOSHIBA EQUIUM A200-1VO laptop at PC World.
If it was possible obviously the OEM office is always a good deal if he needed that I see it's £79 for home and student with this lappy which is a pretty good deal.

After a good couple of weeks searching/speccing/comparing, got exactly the same one for my son. Runs like a dream.

Cheers Guys. I noticed this one has dropped £100, Currys - Shop for Laptops - TOSHIBA EQUIUM A200-1VO Laptop for the Home and Office , so unless someone shouts STOP , may be the one we go for

There's some good laptops around for that price - can't say as to any preference really (last I recommended was an Acer and that was v good for price of £340), just so long as it's not a Packard Bell!
