Lucis Art Question

I have been looking around and find that Lucis Art has been around for awhile and is interfaced with very old controls. Can anybody tell me how they are with updates? and how good does it work with photoshop. will it work on a single layer? Is it over priced for what you get? I have Painter and find that it can do just about all of it better, what is it about this app. that people like?

Re: Lucis Art Question

dont know what painter is so i cant compare the two, have had lucis art for a while probably 6 month or so and never had an update..... as to how it works on photoshop...... superbly and so easily, it works on a single layer no problem........... apart from a selection. the selection has to be on its own layer cos lucis art will convert the whole image selection or no selection........

Re: Lucis Art Question

I've had LA for a while now and never received an update although there is a new version in progress, taken from the website.......

"New LucisArt Pro software is under development and scheduled to be released this fall/winter. This software will have many of the features of Lucis Pro 5.0, it will also have a large preview window, it will process 16 bit images and have automatic color correction. The price of LucisArt will be increased. Any LucisArt software purchased in 2007 will qualify for a paid upgrade. Please check the LucisArt web site in August for more information about product features, pricing and upgrade pricing".

EDIT..the above is the stand alone PRO version which is very expensive.

Re: Lucis Art Question

So the selection part, you can copy a selection to a new layer and it will leave the transparent part alone, or will it convert it to white.
The 16 bit is about the only thing I like about it right now, but I have an old new mac, no intel, no maus. LIke that ,,"an old new computer",,, any favorite blends for photoshop?

Re: Lucis Art Question

Boofers, I downloaded Painter mid last year, but have never used it. It looked exceptionally good, especialy as it's free, but I have so many image editors I don't get to use them all. Anyway, to my questions: (1) How do you use it to get an artistic effect on a photo? (2) Do you have yours installed as a plug-in for PS? I have it installed as a stand alone programme, but if it can be used as a plug-in I'd be interested to try it that way, that way I'll probably use it more

Re: Lucis Art Question

Hi Charlotte,
I have Corel Painter IX, the free version is like a silmed down version to help you understand what is in store for the art side of you. Jeremy Sutton is a very good teacher of the type of work you can put out. Run a search for him. It is very good for portait art effects. I have been shooting pictures and learning that my camera skills need a lot of work so painter, even though next to photoshop is my favorite app. I have been neglecting it. I used it to restore photos because it's brushes for blending pixels were better then photoshops 5 years ago. Their brushes have an algorythm that runs off the end of each brush hair and can make some very real stokes. Every brush you have can be used as a cloner and that's what I have used for effects, you can set your brush, open a picture and use the auto clone to paint out the picture with that set up brush, and then if you wish, place it in photoshop to use as a blending layer for the picture you are working on there. It supports photoshop layers and is a full photo editor. It's only draw back is that it only uses 8bit color, I have tried very hard to stay 16bit or"12bit for you correct thinkers",,,and hope that Painter X has 16 bit support. It works best with a pen, real world professionals use the pen right on the screen, I was able to visit one last year when visiting my sister, she is a fine artist and magazine editor and a very big insperation to me,,,my big sister... . So if you finds the time, you can do alot with it, just try it out,,,in the mean time I will continue to look for ways to use my upgrade money wisely this year,,,I am planning a trip to Oregon,,the land of a million water falls... I will try and find a picture and post it, or just make one up.
Cheers as you say, another find day. Oh and it is not a plug-in
