Question In need of a new photo printer.

I am seriously considering purchasing a A3 photo printer. My needs are plenty though and so it will be a tough challenge to make me happy

It will be heavily used, must be excellent at printing both black & white and colour, must return quality results on different papers (gloss, matt and also canvass) and be able to print from a roll for banners and large landscapes.

Now I don’t mind using original inks, nor do I mind using original manufacturers papers too, providing that the same high quality and consistent results can be gained from the different types.

I have to admit I have not looked into printers for quite a while and so I am totally out of the loop, so all suggestions will be considered seriously.

My budget - as cheap as possible but up to around £1000, although if there is a killer model above that budget I will still consider it.

What do you recommend guys and ladies?

Forgot to add that separate ink tanks would be highly beneficial too

I can't offer any constructive advice as I know nothing about that type of printer. However - what I would say is buy Canon, I've had and used both Canon and Epson and I'll take a Canon any day.

I'm a Canon fan too. I think there is a new A3 model about to be released.

Re: In need of a new photo printer.

Another Canon fan here... The new model's Dabhand is refering to are the Pro series 9000 model (available now, £500) and 9500 model (available soon, no price yet).

They do look the business, no review's that I've seen yet but here's a link to download a .pdf of Canon's printer range, there's a few details about them in there - Canon Download Site

The model that blow's the skirts up of all the photography mags is still the Epson R2400 (£500'ish) which regularly gets 5 stars, it's supposedly very good for B&W prints (3 black ink tanks) and seems to produce slightly higher saturated colour prints making landscapes look punchier. However it seems to be getting caught up by other printers like the HP B9180 (just released, £500) which according to a head to head review with the R2400 in this month's Practical Photography mag produces more natural results, the R2400 still got 5 stars though, to the HP B9180's 4 stars.

Re: In need of a new photo printer.

Can only advise I have seen Monos from the R2400 on A3 paper & they are stunning. It seems to be the most popular printer amongst members of the camera club I frequent. No idea though if it can meet all your needs though
