One USB printer Two computers

I have a printer that is USB only. We use two Pcs. I want to connect both PCs to the printer so we can both use it. Would a normal USB hub allow that to work .

Unfortunately to share one printer on two pc's you need a differant kind of box to a usb hub.

I USB hub is designed to split one usb into many.

I'll have a look around tonight as I have one at home somewhere, I'll dig it out and give you the details

One USB printer Two computers

This idea may be worth considering Anthraquinone.

It's not easy to connect 2 or 3 computers to the same printer unless you have a network set up in your home. And of course, it seems pretty wastefull to go and buy a printer for both of your computers.

You may consider using three USB Bluetooth Dongles to transmit over a distance of up to 30 mtrs . By having a USB dongle attached to each computer, and a Bluetooth USB dongle plugged into your printer usb port you can share your printer with your PC's.
This way you eliminate the usb cables running around the room.
You can purchase the usb Bluetooth dongles for about £5 each now.

You must have the printer drivers installed on both computers though.
Regards Brian

Re: One USB printer Two computers

Most switches cost as much as cheap printer these days. Are the 2 computers not already networked? If they share an internet connection they probably are. If so you could just share the printer which would cost nothing except needing the host computer to be on when printing from the remote.

Re: One USB printer Two computers

Or have a USB lead from each computer and plug whichever one you want to use into the printer?
