Re: Photoshop CS3
Hmm, I've got CS2 but it just sucks up resources and drags my system down, so I continued with CS (muttering that the upgrade was more a Service Pack!). CS3 does seem much slicker in that respect - whether the 'improvements' are, remains to be seen!

Re: Photoshop CS3
Because I have an Intel core MacBook, I tried the Beta CS3. I have the CS2 Suite. I purchased the upgrade, but after installing it, Adobe would not accept my CS2 serial number. When I called Customer Service, they told me that I could only upgrade to the CS3 Suite, which I don't need or want. Since I rarely really need Photoshop with the other PP software that I have, Adobe may have lost a customer. (The only reason I bought CS2 was to use the Beta CS3.)

Re: Photoshop CS3
Ian - how did you find it compared to CS2?

Re: Photoshop CS3
Graham - I found that it had that bit more zip on load up and just seems that bit more polished......just a few more bells and whistles etc that you would expect with an upgrade.
I particularly like the curves box with the drop down menu with preset curves that you can leave at default or alter to taste.......or just set your own curve as in CS2 etc. HDR ACR in CS2 I hardly used much prefering CP1 as my RAW convertor.......ACR 4.0 has a few more options that may well make me make the move to using it, although many and I agree that CP1 just seems to get that extra little more detail out of a RAW file. The B&W conversion is a nice touch again having a drop down menu with preset options Red Filter, Blue Filter etc......even an Infrared option. Many will say is it worth the upgrade well that will always be debatable.Anyway I've waffled on enough.........I've just upgraded so off to go and see if it differs much from the Beta version |

Re: Photoshop CS3
My CS3 beta expired today as well; had to hunt around for my old PS 5.5 disc so I could re-install CS2 (upgrade)
I'm definitely making the jump to CS3 very, very soon: Camera RAW 4 had a wealth of new controls that I managed to put to very good use for precision conversions. I just hope that they've ironed out most of the bugs with Bridge and managed to make the apps integrate more seamlessly with Vista. Soo - as soon as I get a spare £500 in the bank I'll be pulling the trigger on the order. |

Re: Photoshop CS3
Okay: I got a definitive answer today from Adobe UK pre-sales
1. I have a base version of Photoshop 5.5 (full retail box) 2. I have an upgrade version of Photoshop CS2 (downloaded) 3. Because I have CS2 installed, I can perform an upgrade to CS3 The only downside to this arrangement is that - in the event of needing to wipe/reinstall my OS - I can't do a direct installation of CS3; I need to install CS2 first, then perform a CS3 upgrade install alongside it. I can uninstall CS2 after that. Soooo: a little jumping through hoops saves me £406.56. I think I can live with that ![]() Update: Cool - being VAT registered, I didn't even have to pay VAT on the download... total cost to me £139 |

Re: Photoshop CS3
Great news. As I said I had the same conversation and reply. The good news is that I have never had CS2 or any earlier version of photoshop (other than the Beta) on this machine. When I got the full version I had to first uninstall the Beta but did not need to install CS2 etc. When you install CS3 it just asks for the licence number of your qualifying product. It accepted my CS2 UPGRADE serial quite happily and it's all up running and fully registered etc.
