Printer icc profiles

I am trying to help a Camera Club colleague and wondered if anyone on the forum could help. In the past when I have loaded a new printer driver on my PC running Windows XP, the printer icc profiles have automatically been loaded in the relevant system folder and thus avialable for PhotoShop or Elements when using the Print Window.

My club colleague has a new computer running Vista and has succesfully loaded the printer driver and has been happily printing from Element 6 but setting the Print Window to give colour control to the printer. Ideally, one would set Elements to manage colours but there are no icc profiles in the available list for either of his printers. Has anyone come across this problem (his latest printer is a Canon Pixma iP4500)? Is Vista so very different in handling colour profiles? Are we missing something about Elements 6?

Re: Printer icc profiles

I can't comment on Vista or Elements 6 but I do have a Canon iP4500 printer and when I installed the driver, the printer colour profiles where also installed...I am using XP PRO and CS3. All profiles where on the installation disc that came with the printer, meaning I did not download the latest drivers from Canon (if there are any newer than came supplied with the printer).

Hope that helps a little?

Re: Printer icc profiles

Steve, thanks. It is what I would have expected but for some reason they have not installed on his computer. I have suggested to him that he uninstalls then re-installs the drivers but he is still looking for the CD.

Re: Printer icc profiles

The printer icc profiles should be in his \Windows\system32\spool\drivers\color directory.

Checking in there on my pc there is a total of 39 files, obviously some of them will be related to other stuff like Adobe CS, Lightroom and my monitor settings etc. If you can get a list of what is in your friends directory I will compare that to mine and make you a zip of the other files. You can then just extract that to his computer and the profiles should then eb available to him.

Re: Printer icc profiles

Actually after further checks it appears that there is a total of 8 profiles associated with the iP4500 in that folder.

I have zipped them up and can send them to you via email if its any help. Just drop me a PM with the address and I'll sort it out for you
