Printing 8" X 10" Color photographs

Does anyone have experience with printing 8" X 10" color photos on a laserjet or inkjet printer? I would like to purchase a printer... Can anyone give me any advice on brand name, model, or type of printer? Help appreciated...

Paul

Re: Printing 8" X 10" Color photographs

I have used a laser printer at work for some images, and while they are OK for proofs using plain paper, I would not go for one for home printing unless you can stretch to the cost of a professional model and use the specialist papers.

I would suggest an inkjet is the way to go, and you will find the main makes will have their fans just as cameras do. I'd be looking at Epson, Canon, and the top end HP printers.

The problem is that I do macros of flowers and for some reason, I'm having trouble processing (printing) flowers in the red gamut at Wal*Mart.... When I posted the problem on Pixalo, everyone said that the problem was with the color space...
I made the changes in PS like everyone suggested to no avail... Then a friend tried printing it on her inkject and it came out perfect with no changes to the file...
However, the printer cost about $4,000.00 and is way over of my budget...
Any suggestions?

Send your printing to a proper printer not one that people use for happy snaps.

Re: Printing 8" X 10" Color photographs

If you don't want to print many photos on a regular basis, I would use the on-line printing services rather than buying a printer. A photo printer is convenient but expensive to run, and people often have difficulty getting the output to match what they see on the screen. If you don't use the printer for a while, the print head may clog and you waste more ink in cleaning cycles than in printing.

Although I have a Canon i9950 which gives good results at up to 19" x 13", I hardly ever use it these days. There's only so much wall space that can be filled with photos! I also have an all-in-one Canon MP610 which serves as a general purpose printer/scanner/copier and produces surprisingly good photo prints. If I were starting again, I'd stick with the MP610 for the convenience of occasional, one-off prints at up to A4 size, and use an internet service for everything else.

Agree with Silky re MP610, after purchasing one on his recommendation. Very decent shots at A4, although I would still use something like ProAm Imaging for prints I want at ultimate quality.
