WHEN I OPENED MY LAPTOP THIS MORNING, THE FRAME AROUND THE SCREEN BROKE.
IT HAS BROKEN RIGHT BY THE HINGE. I HAVE LOOKED TO SEE WHETHER YOU CAN BUY
THE PLASTIC FRAME AS A SEPARATE PART BUT HAVE HAD NO LUCK.

WOULD IT DO ANY DAMAGE TO THE SCREEN IF I TRIED TO SUPER GLUE IT.

ANYONE GOT ANY IDEAS PLEASE. THANK YOU

this happened to my dell laptop that i had a couple of years ago....... i phoned dell and the quoted me £177 to fix it....... i sent it away and they did a super job of fixing and replacing a lot of the body as well......... and then they forgot to invoice me! lol

have a look on ebay, the problem is not the frame its getting the right connection to the base thru the hinges, there are lots of screens on ebay, u never know u may find hte right one.

There are quite a few Laptop recyclers on ebay that may help you but to be honest I'd carefully take the screws out, usually under little rubber buffers. It may need the removal of the hinge cover, I'd then do as you suggested and superglue it.

Either that or carefully mask the screen with insulating tape and glue it up.

My Benq laptop has been like that for over 12 months and you'd have a heart atack at their prices

My girlfriend's laptop, also Toshiba, had the same thing happen after her hairdresser stored (threw) her laptop bag while she was getting her haircut. It still works OK so she just carries on as normal. A bit of gaffer tape might sort it if its clicking or the like.

I'd go with _MB_ here Woody. Have a good look around and I'm sure you will find some decent tape that will do the job OK if it only has to hold the frame together.

Halfords used to do a clear tape that is very robust and has great adhesive power. It has a green tint when you look at the roll, but is clear. I used it to patch a broken window of a caravan that was out in the open all of the time and it never shifted.

From memory it can take extreme tempreatures of heat and cold and is waterproof too.

Bad luck Woody

Actually I've wondered if this could happen ... I tend to open mine by lifting the lid with my RH while holding down the bottom half with the LH + noticed that my RH is placed slightly to the right of the centre of the lid, thus exerting slight but frequent pressure off-centre, resulting in a lop-sided action on the hinges. Hence I think this way of opening a laptop can cause wear over time. Might be worth taking care to lift the lid at the centre point.

The other sort of tape that may be worth considering if you can get some is air freight packing tape. It is super sticky and has glass fibre ? reinforcing in it. This makes it very strong.

CHARLOTTE, I HAVE ALWAYS OPENED THE LID FROM THE CENTRE, BUT IT HAS ALWAYS
CREAKED EVER SINCE I HAVE HAD IT. MAYBE IT HAS HAD A FAULT OR A WEAKNESS
SINCE I BOUGHT IT.

I HAVE NEVER CONSIDERED THE BUILD QUALITY TO BE VERY GOOD ON THIS MODEL.

I've got loads of that sturdy tape if you have trouble finding it. It held the bumper on my car for a few weeks so I can attest to its strength
