Re: Skype / Messenger - Which headset

PC World were doing 2 skype (US Robotics handsets, like normal phones but USB) for 30 quid i think a while back !

I dont think there will be much difference at all between USB and normal connections, unless the USB uses more processor power, i should know if it does as i work in IT but im afraid i dont ! lol

Re: Skype / Messenger - Which headset

Hi IanC. Tx for coming on & posting.

I got lost with options but felt I needed an USB model, as my monitor takes it's speaker feeds from same socket the normal headphones would....I think. So I thought USB would make it easier. Well it does & it doesn't WHen plugged in the computer automatically diverts sound & microphone to it. Only problem is if you don't disconnect it you can't use your normal speakers. STill easier to pull USB I suppose.

I ended up paying £30 for Skype headset from Argos. It works really well & the microphone has background cancellation built in. You also find an inline volume control plus microphone kill switch.

Music is OK through it, but if you had the money Seinhezer do a set for around £100, which would be great for music aswell

Re: Skype / Messenger - Which headset

Still at work and not sure when ill be home so ill hazard a guess as to what i did ! lol

In control panel, sound and audio devices, click in the voice tab, and select the USB headset in there, it should then play all the voise sounds thro there and your normal sounds thro the speakers !

Usual disclaimer, i havent got my handset thingy here so cant say if thats exactly what i did ! but i think it is ! lol

Re: Skype / Messenger - Which headset

I've got a USB set on this box (cost abt £20) and an ordinary one (cost under £5) on the other. Main advantage: on this box now don't have to grub about under the desk to plug headset in for skype calls. Solution: make sure speakers or keyboard (!) have sockets for both headphones and mic. Sound quality on cheaper set isn't brilliant but I generally only use them for VOIP in any case.

Just seen a TV ad for Vonage UK - Cheap local, national and International Calls using VOIP offering VOIP calls at cheap rates - anyone want to have a look? I'm off bed
