Speed Test
Not at all Photo related.
My internet ( AOL) was running slow and I contacted Live help and my system was checked usinghttp://speedtest.net/ which gave me a reading in the high 3 - low 4.0 Meg good to say the least since I am on the 4.0 Meg However I checked with my usual BT http://www.thinkbroadband.com/speedt...262825990.htmltest and the speed was was struggling to reach 2.5 Meg If any of you have a faviourite tried and tested link I would appreciate trying it Too any AOL users are your speeds Down? Many thanks Bwep |

Re: Speed Test
if you tested just b4 posting you should know this is a busy time for ADSL. Try checking again after 9pm...
If speeds are still crappy outside of busy hours and you've tried a few speed tests then you may well have a problem I'd recommend building up a wee catalog of speed test taken at various times & days results b4 complaining otherwise they'll just pawn u off with some canned rubbish about variable speeds and the internet... Here's another one you can use thinkbroadband :: Broadband Speed Test |

Re: Speed Test
he already mentioned that one. The US waking state shouldn't affect a local speed test.
speedtest.net, thinkbroadband and the BT tester are all "local" what will affect it is adsl contention - lots of users trying to use the same adsl line. |

Re: Speed Test
YourSpeed v3.7
And another One not to use is Namesco BroadbandMax it's been telling lies for months now, showing realy bad speeds. Numion uses UK and Overseas sites to test speeds so it's a tad more accurate ![]() |

Re: Speed Test
coz a speed test only measures the speed from 2 points. you to a given server. the further away the server is, the more hops, the more hops, the higher the chance one of em will be slow.
it's also possible a server is overloaded and therefore gives a slow result. basically there is a lot more than just your ADSL line speed which has an effect on download rates. hence u use different testing servers at different times. btw, the most accurate speed check you can do is disco stu your internet and do the bt test with the bt test account. that gives a proper test of your adsl speed. if you have some webspace on your ISP account, upload a large file. That'll give an accurate idea of your ISP speed. Finally use these speed checkers to get an idea of the internet speed. Remembering that it's really just a speed test to that single host. |
