Re: Time for a New Printer
From memory, the Canon 9000 and 9500 use different ink systems. If you are considering one, check it out as it might make a difference in cost of replacing the inks.
I think that the 9500 ink is supposed to last a lot longer before fading, but might not have the same gamut as the 9000 ink. It might be that the 9500 will either need special paper, or not be able to use all of the papers that the 9000 does. I'm not 100% sure on any of this as I'm going straight off the top of my head, so do check. (And let us know for sure too!).

Re: Time for a New Printer
Thanks Graham, Another Reason I Thought That Canon Would Be Better,
Is You Don't Have The Problem With Flushing It Out When Changing From Colour To Black And White. I Understand You Have A Canon Printer. Have You Had Any Problems With It. |

Re: Time for a New Printer
I think you're right, Graham. One uses dye-based inks, the other pigment inks. Pigment inks are supposed to last longer but can give bronzing with some paper - e.g. Ilford Galerie Smooth Gloss should be OK for either, but the Classic Gloss is for dye inks only.

Re: Time for a New Printer
THANKS SILKSTONE, SO BASICALLY THE ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO
CANON PRINTERS IS THE FACT THAT ONE TYPE OF INK KEEPS THE PRINT LONGER. TO MY MIND I WON'T BE AROUND IN 70 - 100 YEARS TO NOTICE THE DIFFERENCE. I THINK IT JUST COMES DOWN TO COST NOW . ![]() THANKS FOR YOUR HELP. |

Re: Time for a New Printer
Woody - I have a Canon i560 - long out of production, but have been very pleased with it.
Pigment inks do not soak into the paper, (or is it just gloss paper?) so if viewed at an angle under certain lighting, edges can be seen (apparently). The ip6700 has good press too if you don't want to go over A4. I'd be inclined to go for the 9000 personally, and might consider this one if/when my i560 packs up. That is if I don't want to go for A2 and the Epson 3800 ![]() I think that all of the main makes will give good results and the final choice might be done on price and convenience in use. BTW, the pigment printers apparently should be left on permanently and if not used regularly are prone to jet blocking. |

Re: Time for a New Printer
Thanks Again Graham, I Think I Will Probably Go For The 9000, The 9500 Is
Out Of My Price Range, As I Have Also Got To Think Of The Cost Of A Scanner As Well. Thanks Again For Your Help And Advice. |
