Upgrade an upgrade of Photoshop?
Hi All,
I have been using Photoshop 6 for some time. I recently took delivery of a CS2 Upgrade that I found on eBay. It is brand new unopended etc and cost me $150 (about £72). The seller was in USA. I am well pleased. You can only upgrade three versions so CS2 is as high as you can go from 6. (The seller had 8 copies - if interested, e-mail me for details). My question is, can I upgrade an upgrade? In theory, could I buy a CS3 upgrade and go up another step? Thanks Mark Adams |

Re: Upgrade an upgrade of Photoshop?
I didn't think your could but someone else here, I can't remember who, has been buying upgrades since year dot and is sure it's all above board.
If you're really unsure, call Adobe. |

Re: Upgrade an upgrade of Photoshop?
I originally bought PS7. I later upgraded to CS and have since upgraded to CS3. As far as I can tell, when you install and upgrade, it expects to see the version that you are upgrading from. I believe my CS upgrade would only fully install and activate if PS7 was already installed. The licence for the upgrade stated that I could only leave PS7 on my computer for a further 3 months and that, after that time PS7, was no longer licenced and could not be used. When I came to upgrade CS to CS3 and activate, Adobe appeared to have a history of the licence and recognised that my CS had been an upgrade.
So if you have a genuine CS2 upgrade you should be able to install it and activate. You should then be able buy a CS3 upgrade and install that. If you have any doubts contact Adobe. Dave |

Re: Upgrade an upgrade of Photoshop?
Dave,
Thanks for that. Both my V6 and CS2 are 'above board'. I did not get a message about uninstalling V6 but have noted that it is still present. Thanks again Mark |

Re: Upgrade an upgrade of Photoshop?
Mark, although the CS licence stated that PS7 must be removed, I did not do so and nothing untoward happened. I did uninstall PS 7 just before upgrading to CS3 but the licence for CS3 did not ask me to remove CS so I still have it. I also have legitimate versions of Elements 3 and Elements 5 on my PC and this does not seem to cause any conflicts or other problems.

Re: Upgrade an upgrade of Photoshop?
(Were talking Mac here) I used all the early versions of photoshop then had to buy version 7. I have upgraded each version thru CS3. At version CS2, they stopped asking for an earlier version and all have worked on my machines no matter what. CS2 will only work if CS3 is open on the same machine, otherwise on a MAC it will open CS3, you can change default, but it changes back when not in use. Both have to be activated. I now run CS2 on the laptops and CS3 on desktops. all activated independently. I replyed to your other post, but if you have CS2 and don't really use RAW format, you won't miss anything.
