eBay UK: Half Price Promo

Here's my calcs for the Toys & Games section, showing you are only better off if you sell items for under £2 Don't look at the total charges, especially if you accept Paypal, if you have a weak heart

Re: EBAY - Reduced Listings Fee's but increased final valuation fees - Good or Bad ?

Nothing to do with Xmas, I'm absolutely positive!

Think it's about time someone came along and gave eBay a run for their money, setting up an alternative. There have been others which have rather arrived and then disappeared to always leave eBay as king of the heap - and so being able to do what they like

Having said that, I do like eBay and have done well out of them, so no complaints from me!

Re: EBAY Half Price Promo - A Con ?

Difficult one this, even using your 'total fees payable', selling something for £100 costs just under 10% AND that is with a guarantee of sale or else the fee will be considerably reduced as you only pay the full fee on a sale. I don't know any other type of company that i can go to and ask them to sell something for me and expect them to only take 10% of the sale. If you did this through a shop, you would expect a minimum of 25% of the sale to be taken by the shop and they don't have millions of people viewing your item for sale.

Are we (genuine, not a rhetorical question) expecting things to be ultra cheap these days because the internet is so cheap and accessible? Not sure but I do know that I begrudge going to a shop to buy a significant purchase (lenses, et al) because I know I can get it far cheaper on the internet, often from Ebay. But of course the shop has lots of legitimate expenses so there is no way I should expect them to be selling at the price of a low-overhead seller on the internet.

The price you sell something for can be set as a minimum by putting a reserve so you can easily take paypal into account by raising your reserve if you wish. Personally i don't tend to use reserves, I just set the starting price at the minimum I would take and then anything else is a bonus.

Interesting thread this, I'll be interested to see other points of view.

cheers,
Rob
