2007 Budget on Wednesday
It looks like Mr Brown is going to come down hard on "gas-guzzlers" again, possibly increasing road tax to £400 a year for the least fuel-efficient vehicles.
It also looks like there won't be any significant tax increases (yay!), but there will be a tightening of rules under the inheritance tax. Also looking likely he will act on Stamp Duty..hopefully raising the limits with the way houseprices are going. There is also speculation that Mr Brown will offer tax incentives to encourage people to install solar panels, wind turbines and other carbon-free sources of energy in their homes. |

"Yes we have a policy of supporting alternative energy" but "No you can't have planning permission" My parents, always been keen to utilise solar panels but have had planning permission turned down. Reason? In a conservation area in Peak District - despite the only people who can see them (no, really!) being inbound @ 3,000m to Manchester Airport! Of course the planners haven't been on a site visit - we wouldn't want to disturb them now, would we? |

Re: 2007 Budget on Wednesday
to be honest the budget doesnt worry me. They will do what they will do and there aint nowt we can do about it so no point getting worried over it. i do however completely agree with the higher road tax on gas guzzling cars....... If you can afford to buy the car and run the car then you should pay the penalty of causing more pollution...... same with a frequent flyer tax , which I am all in favour of!

Tell me my 3.0 Z4 ain't a gas guzzler please
![]() Fi, only problem is that Gas guzzlers are already heavily taxed .....via petrol tax. If they use more fuel , they pay more tax !! |

Re: 2007 Budget on Wednesday
I know what he is going to do
he will raise the IHT threshold just after I have paid him from my mother's estate. The man is a robber, a charlatan, a thief and a two faced b*****d who goes private for his dentistry ![]() |

And not only that, with IHT, he is taxing money which my parents have already paid tax on
From now on all my money is going overseas ![]() |

Re: 2007 Budget on Wednesday
Ah, but did you know the proof is out there that you stand a better chance of survival as a pedestrain being hit by a 4x4 than a small car !!! Something to do with more area to hit, rather than concentration on legs & then whip lash action from cars

Re: 2007 Budget on Wednesday
What about all the Audi, Jag, Subaru etc 4 wheel drive cars though ???
Plus when I had a RAV 4x4 a few years back, being a diesel it did 38mpg round town, & was shorter than a Mondeo estate. Sorry the 4x4 argument does not stack up.... there are tons of cars worse for the enviroment than majority of 4x4's |
