Anyone else move house often ?

Can't believe it.....only been in current house since April & the Missus & I are off looking at new houses this afternoon Nowt wrong with the current house, but looks like we are changing schools for my daughter, so want to make sure we live somewhere near by the local kids, for her to play with. These 2 women in my life cost me a fortune !!!! This is potentially the 5th house move in 7 years......I'm not going to think how much money I've given Gordon Brown

Anybody else find it hard to settle in one place ?

Re: Anyone else move house often ?

We've been in our flat for pushing 14 years now, so no, we don't move often!! But, we are about to move. I have been given a tied cottage with work and we hope to be in by the New Year. It has to be completely renovated and we're off to look at kitchens and bathrooms this afternoon. The best bit? Work pay for it all!!

Move !!!!
No way my nerves would not stand it, We have lived in the same {ground floor} flat for the last 33 years. The wife and youngest son both can be in work in less than 4 mins and after hoarding the studd that we have since we moved in it would take at least a year to clear out all the stuff that my wife says "Dont get rid of it we might need it in the future" and who am I to argue
Regards

Re: Anyone else move house often ?

All the time, 3 and half years ago i lived in london, then moved to Southsea for 2 years, sold there, rented in Extremadura Spain for 9 months, rented in Granada, SPain for 6months, now just bought a house an hour away from Granada and hopefully going to live there for at least 5 years as the kids are getting to school age and need to settle a little.

Re: Anyone else move house often ?

Bought our first house in 1997 (in Bristol) and then moved to Chester in Feb this year -pushed the boat our mortgage wise for the very reason that we don't want to move again (and pay yet more stamp duty) until we are ready to downsize in 20 years plus time.

I don't even like to think about the stamp duty we had to pay earlier this year - could have bought a very nice new car with that kind of money. The real sickner is that if the stamp duty bands had been moved in line with house price inflation the 3% band wouldn't even kick in until £600K!

Re: Anyone else move house often ?

Yaeh that stamp duty is a real killer . The thing is, every1 tries to better themselves but it seams in this country you get penalized for it, you want a bigger house so for some reason the governement decide that if you can afford a bigger house then obviously you can donate a large portion of wedge to them, and if that doesn't completely mash your head then they require you to pay more rates and your not even using anymore water or making anymore waste really makes my blood boil , if it wasn't for the kids I'd be off out of old blighty for sure. Ok folks sorry you had to hear that ( anger vented) I guess you've figured that I hate the way the country is run, freedom of speach

Re: Anyone else move house often ?

As for these new houses, it's a nightmare. You have to spend £450K to get a double garage with 2 parking spaces. £360K gets you a house with a car port/ double ended garage doors, where get this.....you have a parking space in your rear garden !!!! . You have to drive though the garage / car port to park 1 car & then the next has to go in the garage / car port. Madness !!!

Re: Anyone else move house often ?

I have moved 4 times in the 18 months
One of those was an emigration too

I hate moving house and hopefully we will stay where we are now for at least the next 5 years.

On average, once every five years.
All for schooling reasons.
