Anyone owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee, or know someone who does ?

Drove a 56 plate 3.0 Diesel Jeep Grand Cherokee yesterday & have to say I was pretty impressed. Plenty of power , yet quiet & comfy. They also seem to be a lot cheaper than VW Toerags .

Having read the brochure it states 33mpg on a run, 22mpg round town & 27mpg combined. Just wondered if anyone can me "real" figures for running one of these ?

I stopped myself from trying out a 300CC ..... I personally think they look awesome

Re: Anyone owned a Jeep Grand Cherokee, or know someone who does ?

No experience of the diesel Grand Cherokee, but I had a 4 litre petrol Cherokee from 1997 to 2002.

I'd expect the fuel consumption to average somewhere between the Urban and Combined figures. The Jeep diesels are not the most refined in the world - not as good as most of the competition.

Jeeps come way down the J D Power customer satisfaction surveys, and that's mainly because of reliability issues and the cost of spares/servicing. I got rid of mine when things began to go wrong and the repair costs were astronomical. Sorry, but I wouldn't buy another. If I really needed a Chelsea Tractor I'd go for Toyota, Mitsubishi or something that didn't go wrong very often.

The Jeep has the same problem as most of these big 4x4s - uneconomical, expensive, poor handling and a Tardis in reverse - big on the outside but with less internal space than a medium size hatchback or estate. There are much better cars for normal use.

Actually, reading that again properly, their Jeeps are petrol, as is the one we have at work.

Not bad, build quality of a Plastic pig sadly thou although they have improved over the original pile of rubbish of the past. One i had the misfortune to drive u could turn the steering wheel half a turn before it made any difference and u had to book the brakes 2 weeks in advance!

Must admit I had same perception before driving, but the latest model was up there with VW & Jap 4x4's in ride quality. Saying that the JD Power survey is a tad off putting

Hate to add to the growing list of con's here, but...

They use the same break setup as the Cherokee. IE: They added all that extra weight, but didn't upgrade the breaks. A friend of mine in Miami has one, and every couple years (at most) he has to have the entire break system redone. He doesn't drive like a madman either.
