Apple Iphone set for UK launch on Tuesday
Apple Iphone set for UK launch on Tuesday
Or not By INQUIRER newsdesk: Thursday 13 September 2007, 16:29 APPLE IS EXPECTED to launch its Iphone in the UK this coming Tuesday. At least, the outfit is to hold a press conference in London on that date but it won't say what it is about. Reuters reckons it has to be the Iphone, and hacks will be mightily, um, hacked off it they all tip up to find the firm launching a new USB stick, or a two-buttoned mouse. The Iphone, for those not in the know, is a sort of mobile phone unlike any you've yet seen. The battery is welded in so you can't change it and it was so expensive on launch Apple soon cut the price. This sent shareholders like Forrest Gump apoplectic with rage as they thought their dividends would suffer. The price cut also so miffed Yanks who had already bought the phone that Apple's boss, The Man Named Jobs, wrote to them all on the Interweb, offering them a hundred bucks each to keep quiet, so long as they spent it on similarly over-priced gear. O2 seems to be the bookies' favourite to become the network on which Iphone will work. Until the battery runs out that is. µ Original Oh, and while we're talking about the soldered in battery, this poor bugger took his iPhone on holiday and it seems the phone uses bandwidth even when switched off. The impressionable sheep got hit for $4,800 in roaming charges on his return to the land of the free. Had the battery not been soldered in, removing it would solve that particular issue. As it is, the cattle will have to leave their iPhones at home. AT&T is cruising for a bruising |

Sounds like a load of i-Balls.
So you can't replace the battery. Mmmm.... good for about 300 recharges then before it becomes toxic waste. |

So, can we look forward to another campaign by those two guys in New York, putting up posters throughout the city, basically stating that Apple had a POS iPod that couldn't have it's batteries changed? Well, it worked! Not long afterwards Apple decided that you could get replacement batteries! |

It's the Stella "Reasuringly Expensive" Artois school of thinking. Never has a lager tasted more like the fettid ******** of a dead badger than that crap, yet sheep by their masses buy it coz they think it makes 'em look cool.

}Yeah, but Apple has survived as a result of the iPod, don't forget! Ironic to think of a computer company continuing to manufacture, and sell, computers because of a toy! And I continue to have a really good laugh with those (with, as it'd be rude to laugh at!) that really do think that Apple still make better/good/OKish PCs! Long may they survive and bring me humour!

Re: Apple Iphone set for UK launch on Tuesday
Well, without wanting to start a war
, not so long ago and in 'another place' I asked exactly what made Apple Macs so special that they cost 50% more than a similarly specced PC. It was a serious question - I wasn't knocking the Mac and I really wanted to know, partly because I've gone off Windows and sadly a lot of useful stuff won't run under Linux. The replies fell into two camps - those who said that actually Macs weren't that expensive for the performance they delivered, and those who said it didn't matter because they looked, er, 'cool'. ![]() So I went onto the Apple site and looked at the Mac Pro with a decent spec, and then I looked at Mesh, Dell and a few other PCs with similar power (probably) and yes, I was wrong. The Mac was actually nearly twice as much. Having said that, everything here is nearly twice as much as you pay in the US, so maybe the prices are more competitive in the home market.

Re: Apple Iphone set for UK launch on Tuesday
Many moons ago, when PC meant only a computer and didn't mean Political Correctness, Apple made computers that genuinely were better graphic systems. Time and technology has left boxes that even hackers CBA'd to......, well......, hack!
