Arrgh!! Who's a plonker then
Bored this afternoon, off work so I had lunch, drove into town to buy a CP at Calumet. Came home tried the CP out in the back garden then decided to go to the coast and maybe catch a few bird shots and experiment with the new filter.
Headed 15 miles down to Aberlady by the nature reserve and spotted a large heron just landing on the opposite side of the bridge. Great start I thought, the 100-400 L was already on the camera, aimed at the heron and had a good viewfinder full of heron. Pressed the shutter halfway to focus and greeted with the message "NO CF CARD" just as well herons don't understand our language. All my CF cards were lying on the computer desk at home. What a pillock, waste of a afternoon and a gallon of deisel, could'nt be bothered going out again when I got home. |

There is always a silver lining - you won't ever do that again!

Re: Arrgh!! Who's a plonker then
Now I've started using the card reader to down load photos rather than the USB cable - I worry that one day I'm going to do just that! So I've ordered two spares and will make sure there's always one in my bag!

Re: Arrgh!! Who's a plonker then
Its a good idea to have several cards and transfer the data from them one at a time, replacing each back with your camera gear as soon as you have finished with it. That should go some way to preventing the No CF situation in future.
BTW Its tough when it happens but I seriously doubt that you are the first or will be the last to have found themselves in this situation ![]() |

I think everyone's done it once. I did, but have never done it since

Re: Arrgh!! Who's a plonker then
Not done it with CF cards (yet!) but have done with batteries...
After handing over my £7.50 entrance fee to a National Trust gardens and discovering I had no battery resulted in sense of humour failure. So - although I'm never likely to be battery-less ever again, the CF card one could well catch me out! ![]() |

Re: Arrgh!! Who's a plonker then
Did that at a race a couple of years ago, got out there and no card! DOH! Lucky it was local and I had time to go back.
Now have several in bag all the time. |

Re: Arrgh!! Who's a plonker then
LOL. Dunno about Canon, but Nikon always displays the number of shots left in the top LCD, so I know if there's not a battery there because the number disappears....
