camera bags

i have off E bay bought a crumpler bag, bens pizza xxxl . When i bought my canon40d, i got, thrown in for half price ,a slingshot 100 AW , nice but, i wanted something more compact , so i thought i would buy this crumpler bag, after reading a few reviews, i thought just what i need ,to my disapointment , the crumpler it's not what i thought it would be , very boxy [ if thats a word] i wanted something i could just, well look cool and smart, neat and compact, put in a 40d 17/85 plus 18mm and bits, when i'm walking around.
Even though i looked at the pics on the net ,it was different in real life , if you know what i mean,
So do i stay with the slingshot 100aw or crumpler i will sell one or the other, not sure which one yet.
Condridiction here i said, did.nt like the crumpler but in real life ,and after some thought , i'm not sure now

Re: camera bags

Ah, well.... ... you have to decide. I went through this process and now have 12 bags.

If it's of any help, which it probably isn't, I haven't been able to beat the Lowepro Stealth Reporter 300 AW as a decent compromise between practicality, size and weight.

Re: camera bags

Well I went for a Lowepro Mini trecker as recommended on Pixalo

Just the right size for my 40D, 24-105 and 100-400 plus hoods, a flash and most of my other bits'n'bobs.

Compact and very neat with the availability of a few add on pockets and holders. It even has a fold out tripod pocket thingy

Yep, got one of those too. For me, it's a little too heavy when full, but excellent for holding everything.

I can't quite match Silky yet but I am close. I have a crumpler and it's a great well padded bag but it's rigid not soft. I also have just picked up a Domke F3X for my in car kit and I must admit I kind of really like it. It's canvas and soft sided with next to no padding so it folds around you and is only filled out by what you put in it. It's just right for a body with a standard zoom a couple of compactish lenses and then a few goodies in side pockets. It can squeeze in more but that's not what it is best for and if you put in less it just folds around more. What's really nice is since the photographs here I have unstitched the Domke logos on the ends so now it just looks like a cheapo shapeless canvas shoulder bag. Another nice touch is the lid can be clipped around open so then it's a nice drop in lens bag for when you are shooting.

Here it is with my in car kit: D200 with Tamron 17-50 2.8 (Hood on) Nikon 70-300 Hood reversed and Sigma 10-20 hood on and SB600 in one pocket, in car charger in the other. Spare batteries cards and a couple of polarisers all sit in the lid.

But just to show it can take big kit at a pinch here is the D3 with 24-70 14-24 and 70-200 but you lose ease of use and the whole soft side factor and I wouldn't use it for that. I may look at their bigger bags though. But if I did I may have to declare a bag amnesty.

Re: camera bags

I appear to be following in Silky's footsteps... I have 5 in my collection at the moment.

Each serves a slightly different purpose and so I couldn't possibly part with any of them One hasn't even had a camera or lens in it (came free with something or other and would really be more suited to a video camera), but it holds my beanbags perfectly
