customer service ?

Been looking for verbatim printable C.D.s in our area, the only supplier according to the web is P.C. World, so I drove over and went into the shop.
I saw an assistant and asked if there were any baskets as I could not see any.
" We don't use them here". So how do you get items to the checkout I asked.
"You carry them" Bit of a problem as I can only walk with crutches.
I pointed this out and was told "if it's just one item I will get it"
O.K. I want a tower of 50 Verbatim printable discs please.
"You can't print on discs they just record".
No they have a white matt surface on one side and you can print on it.
"Well we don't do them"
According to your website you do.
"We don't do everything on the website, why not get some normal ones"
At this point I walked away before I said something.

Re: customer service ?

PC World are very variable. When I buy from them, I will often order on the internet and collect from the store. That way you are assured that the store is recorded as having stock. Also the price on-line may be cheaper than in store. You do not pay until you go to the store so little risk of buying the wrong thing.

I was trying to buy a new Laptop for the Club a few weeks ago and we went to PC World to compare our spec with their stock. After a short time it was apparent that their Laptop expert knew much less than we did and could only read specs as published on PC World website. He could not assure us about vital Graphic card performance. As by then we were down to just a Dell, we suggested he contacted Dell and checked. He suggested that the Dell Rep occasionally visited so would ask. We explained that he needed to contact Dell the very next day then get back to us immediately. As we expected nothing happened so we contacted Dell directly and then purchased a suitable model from them. That was a month ago and we have still not heard back from PC World!

Re: customer service ?

I get mine on-line. 7 Day Shop mostly or one of the other on-line suppliers. Ritek are good too. Don't use CDs much now, DVDs are not much dearer and have a much greater capacity. Not that I usually use it all though.

Re: customer service ?

Like Dave, if I specifically want an item I'll order on line and collect from store (according to their website, 0.8 miles from home). Sometimes I'll pop in on the off chance; the most recent time being when I wanted a battery for a Nikon F2 and I knew that they kept a variety of camera equipment. Their "camera expert" actually was; and even went to the trouble of downloading the manual (and actually printing it!) for me to confirm the type - which they didn't have in stock. He also told me who would have it...

Re: customer service ?

Seems that they are variable according to individual shops and areas, you seem to have one similar to mine Dave, the outlet I go to only have compacts or bridge cameras and "box sellers" not experts Stephen, so yours is better than my local outlet.
Thanks Graham, I will have to get some on line, I tend to use CDs for most of my images that I send to the re-enactors as they want j pegs at A4 size and I can get around 50 on a CD.
I do use DVDs for larger images and to store images for the museum office.
My main storage are 3 external H.D.s and I keep 3 of everything ( RAW, TIFF, J Peg).

Re: customer service ?

Of course DVD drives are becoming rare now. The new Laptop we bought does not have one. For Club requirements visiting lecturers, where appropriate, will bring their lecture/pictures on a Memory Stick. All Club input is on-line; we have not accepted DVD's for some years now. I still have a DVD drive on my PC and used to write DVD's for varying reasons and have a stock of over 50 most of which may never be used. I also used to buy the white versions to print on. I have not written a DVD or CD for several years now. However, when my computer failed after the most recent W10 upgrade, I was able to recover by using an Acronis Recovery CD for which I was grateful. I do not keep any images on DVD's or CD's having discovered many years ago that they can be unreadable after say a decade.

Re: customer service ?

I have just been looking at the new Samsung SSDs and they look quite good. Fast, good capacity and stable being solid state not HD.

I've got an SSD for my desktop system drive and when I first got this computer, it would boot up from cold in 12 seconds! Now with stuff to load on start-up, it takes a bit longer, but it is still quick.

Re: customer service ?

Thanks Colin, all my external HDs are Lacie so I will check that one,(keep them all Lacie).
My main one is the "big quadra" witch updates every time it is turned on and has the OS and all content of my computer HD on two of it's HDs. The other three externals are the orange "rugged" ones and store my RAWS, Tiffs and Jpeg versions of my images.
