D2X +Nikkor 80-400 VR
Yesterday I got the chance to use this combination. I had to get one of our speciallist photographic units out to take some photos for me and they asked me to take some shots of them doing the job for their records and publicity literature.
They had to go up on a cherry picker (I'd been up there the previous day) so gave me one of their spare bodies and the long lens. I was surprised on how compact and light the lens was, not really much bigger than my Sigma 70-200 f2.8, and when it was on the body the whole thing balanced very nicely, although it was a lot heavier than my own D70s. I only took about 24 shots, but they were quite pleased with the results. This has really whetted my appitite to have a good look at a D200

What's the point in a birthday if you don't treat yourself
![]() BTW, how did you find the speed of focusing on the 80-400mm Graham ? When I was looking at this lens, the reviews of slow AF put my off slightly

Re: D2X +Nikkor 80-400 VR
Yes Dave - I found when I was not using manual focus, it was a bit slow in lower light. It did seem better in brighter conditions, but I think if you needed AF in low light or could not use MF with a small enough apature to give reasonable DoF (I know that is a bit of a contradiction) to reduce the need to keep on re-focussing, I would be very cautious.
