Just got a copy of Camille's album Le Fil from Play.com but i can't play it on my computer unless i have the CD in the drive and even then WMP won't play it!

The problem is DRM, which i don't get at all. Either way it seems one of the biggest *******ations about after googling it.

I want to 1) be able to play it on WMP and 2) put it on my Archos.

Is this possible?

Don't know but trying installing VLC and see if that plays it. It will certainly play things that WMP won't, but it depends on whether Windows is getting in the way too.

Nope no luck. This has genuinely annoyed me. This is the kind of crap the music industry comes up with to RIP US OFF. So now that i don't have to pay the inflated prices of the 90's and early 2k's they'll tell me what i can and can't do with a CD i blaady payed for. Some one needs a swift kick in the nuts. . They may as well have come up when you put the CD in your disk drive.

send it back and get a refund. head to pirate bay, get a torrent, steal the album.


Piracy is the better choice.

Play.com need to advertise the fact that they are selling a product with DRM restrictions. What an annoyance.

Well this record is by EMI and i read that they'd stopped going by DRM but obviously this is one copy which still has it.

I get way too worked up about these things, but to be honest its perfectly justifiable. My Dad can't quite grasp the context of th whole situation but he soon understood with the analogy that; 'what if the loops on his his fishing rods were hacked off? you obviously just have an expensive stick'.

Well if Play.com don't want to refund me, i will go nuts.

Biggest opposition to it came when Sony used it to add the "authorisation" to PCs automatically without informing or permission. Effectively this is a rootkit and drew attention to how virus authors had missed an opportunity to by-pass antivirus progs (rootkits are loaded before the operating system) to "piggyback" trojans into peoples' PCs
