Equipment failure caused Hamilton crash
Ron Dennis, CEO of McLaren Mercedes has said that the wheel gun used to tighten the wheel nut on the front right wheel of Lewis Hamilton's car caused the crash that put him out of the pole position shoot-out third qualifying session at the Nurburgring. It can only be assumed at this time that the gun had not fully tightened the wheel nut. This would not have been apparent to either the mechanic operating the gun or Hamilton on his out lap.
Hamilton could not have done anything to avoid an accident as it happened entering a fast left-hand corner where the right front wheel is heavily loaded. He was on his first run to try for pole position, and had completed the first sector more than six tenths of a second faster than the previously recorded fasted first sector time. Early indications are that Hamilton is not seriously hurt, but it is not known if he will be able to race tomorrow. It has been reported that at no time did he loose consciousness and he has no broken bones.

Re: Equipment failure caused Hamilton crash
Glad he's OK but I'm crossing my fingers he won't start tomorrow. That way we might get something other than the Lewis Hamilton Show to watch. Although with ********s like steve rider and james allen even that's not a guarantee.

Re: Equipment failure caused Hamilton crash
He's been cleared to race.
itv.com/f1 - Hamilton cleared to race in the Euro GP Should be good watching him come through the field from 10th - we've been told he's Senna'esq so passing shouldn't be a problem. Unfortunately for fans of other drivers, it's all James Allen and Steve Rider will talk about. Don't think I'll bother watching the pre-race build up. |
