Everyone from the British Isles here?
I am just curious. Do you, Steve, or anyone, have any idea how many people on the site are from outside the BI's? The only one I can think of is ?eric? from France.
Don't get me wrong....I love it. I love learning a new language. And I love posting at night my time and waking up to a ton of replies. skip |

Re: Everyone from the British Isles here?
I just had a browse through the welcome forum Skip which shows that there are a few members that are not from the British Isles.

Re: Everyone from the British Isles here?
I guess that because the owners of the site are from the UK (or were when it was first set up) we introduced it to our friends and family first, that in turn meant that those people passed on our site to their friends and family and we have ended up with a majority of members based in the UK.
Since then we have and continue to work hard at getting Pixalo listed in the serach engines and known on the web. This is now beginning to pay off and we are seeing new members joining from all over the world. We currently have members from China, India, NZ Aus, USA, Canada, Brazil, etc etc Most of our traffic actually comes from the USA and not GB as most would suspect. However it seems our most vocal members are based in the UK ![]() Top 7 countries in order of most visits United States European Union Great Britain Australia Sweden Canada Switzerland ^^ Pulled from the site stats. ^^ Hope that is of some interest?

Re: Everyone from the British Isles here?
The lovely Dutchie lives in the UK but is ...of course... from Holland! The equally lovely Leanne and the other lady with four initials (sorry, can't remember them!) are from Malaysia. Erick is from France.
Why are the UK lot the most active? I don't know, probably because there are a lot more of us and at the time of day most of us come on, there are lots of other people around. No idea really but it is great that we have people from lots of other parts of the world. As for the British Isles, please note we are not one country: Tthe Scots rabble are the most troublesome but we try and keep them in check. We built a wall to try and keep them out but sadly it fell into disrepair and the government have never bothered rebuilding it.... said it wasn't politically correct! They love watching football and rugby but sadly are rubbish at both. They do have some beautiful landscapes yet they still figured the best way to attract visitors was to claim there is a monster living in a lake! ... Oh, and they speak in a funny accent that only Glaswegians can understand and even then only in pubs after 10pm... and they call everybody Jimmy! The Welsh are as mad as hatters and give tiny places ridiculously long names, like Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysilio gogogoch ... which only has about 2000 people living there! They have two cities that can't stop arguing with each other. They can't even decide which one should be the most important! Cardiff (or Caerdydd if you read their road signs!) is the capital city yet their Welsh Assembly buildings (that's the semi-autonomous, let-us-rule-ourselves-even-just-a-tiddly-little-bit-please group of bureaucrats who don't like travelling to foreign places like London to work) is nuilt in Swansea. They also speak funny and spit everytime they say Llanfair.... you know the one! The Northern Irish are....well....learning to get along with their neighbours (also called Irish but without a compass point attached) and have a very big hole in the middle of the country which has filled with water so is now the biggest lake in the UK.... until Tony Blair has a drink when his gob becomes the biggest expanse of water in Europe! They enjoy dainty little dances, a bit like the Scots except without the accompaniment of wailing cat like instruments and without the danger of slicing their feet off with a pair of swords. They also speak funny with an accent that makes them sound really tick... whoops, I meant thick, sorry! But they aren't.... of course :o) There are other foreign parts near our shores to: There are Guernseyites and Jerseyites, both best known for their cows, the Isle of Wight which is also best known for Cowes but not the type that go Moo! There are baby Channel Islanders like the Sarkites and the Alderneyites but most maps can't show them as they are smaller than a single pixel each! We have silly isles called the Scilly isles which are the only British Islands entirely surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean... unless of course you cound places like the Falkland Islands but the last time they got mentioned we ended up having a war so we'll keep that quiet. There are other tax dodges like the Isle of Man but sorry, no Isle of Woman. However, back up to that funny Haggis place you'll find other islands with names spelled weird like Eigg with a silent 'i' and Skye with a silent 'e'. Go right up north past a bloke called John O'Groats and get into another boat and you can head off to the Orkneys and if you miss them (not hard) you can keep going and end up in the place of little ponies: The Shetland Isles. So you see, we are really a Unites States of Britain, each with their own little quirks and funny people speaking with funny voices.... BUT WE ARE PROUD TO BE BRITISH!!!! Now I am off to hibernate for a VERY long time. And just to try and extenuate my circumstances here: I have family who are Scottish, Welsh and Irish. I have visited all those countries and they are beautiful. England is also beautiful and full of lots of lovely people.... except Tony Blair who is.... not! Oh well, living is over-rated anyway ![]() Cheers, Rob

Re: Everyone from the British Isles here?
After I wrote "British Isles", I wondered if anyone uses that term anymore. Seems UK is the accepted nomenclature.
And I am quite aware of the countries in the UK...I have been in England (perhaps 5 - 10 times), Scotland, Wales where I can't pronounce their names either, and the Irish Republic. I know, that is really not part of the UK, but to me it is. But now that you have explained the UK to me, I really understand it. That was brilliant! But I wonder how Fi feels about your decription of the Scots? I suspect that we shall hear from her. I was going to post a wisea-- comment about why the US people don't post, but I have no clue. skip |

When God created the earth, he created a special place with awe inspiring scenery, breathtaking mountains, fresh water rivers full with salmon, valleys and glens of tranquility and an abundance of wildlife, some not seen anywhere else. This place he called Scotland. St Peter said " This is all very well, but what has this one small, beautiful place done to deserve all this?" God replied " You should see the A**eh***s they are getting for neighbours! And i am not proud to be British, im proud to be SCOTTISH! Fiona ![]() |

Re: Everyone from the British Isles here?
The thing that bugs me though Fiona is that if a Scot says they are proud to be Scottish and a Welsh guy says he is proud to be Welsh, that is called Patriotism. If an Englishman says he is proud to be English he is accused of being racist, separatist, etc. Up in Scotland, people happily fly the St Andrews flag. Down here, the council tell you to take the flags down in case you upset the non-English neighbours!
Do you think the Scots will ever vote for a truly independent Scotland Fiona? I know there are a lot who like the idea in theory though I don't think it would be a smart move economically etc. I think I'm going to start up the Dorset Independence Party soon. I will use a slogan as well: Sticking Together In Country Keeps Safe. So there you go. How do you like my new banner.... D.I.P.S.T.I.C.K.S. FOREVER!!!! |
