F1 at Silverstone this weekend

So its Silverstone this weekend

The highlight of the F1 calendar for most Brits and following on from Monaco and Mr Schumacher’s now famous controversial incident. I am looking forward to the Silverstone race but I am curious if you think he ‘parked’ on purpose?

Re: F1 at Silverstone this weekend

Of course he did. He's always been a poor sportsman & always will be. But did anyone see TopGear where Clarkson actually praised him for doing it. He thought it was brilliant !!!

Does anyone believe Button can do it this time, or what about old square jaw Coulthard.

Anyway can't wait for the race. Just wish I was there

Would be soooooo cool if a Brit won it this year! Unfortunately, I think it's unlikely.

Unfortunately I have to agree, from the recent testing Ferrari are looking very strong and it will be disapointing for me if Schumacher wins, especially after the Monaco incident.

Do you think the Mclaren's have a chance this weekend?

Re: F1 at Silverstone this weekend

I went to last years British grand prix and the 2 seats at the end of the pit straight before the first corner cost me £600 for the pair (entire weekend)

I will never be ripped off like that again. Next F1 race I attend will be abroad where they are much, much cheaper. My Aussie colleagues tell me that decent tickets to the Aus GP cost around £100 each. So just add flights and whatnot and you have yourself a holiday at the same time.

Back to the Michael Shumacher point. Cheating g!t but you have to admire the ingenuity.

And don't even get me started on Jenson. He'll never be a top driver compared to the likes of Senna, Prost or Mansell. He may get the odd win here or there but he'll just become a commentator before too long imho

That was a expensive weekend for watching F1, its funny that you mention the costs and it being a rip off as just this week Bernie Eccelstone and Max Mosely were saying that the prices reflect the ‘market value’ and continued with ‘if the seats are full then the price is correct and if they are empty then we are two expensive’. I have to agree with you though, compared to the prices of watching F1 in other countries, once again the Brits are getting hammered in the pockets

I wonder who planned the move, would it have been Ferrari or MS himself? Like you I believe it was not a driver error but I find it hard to believe that they would risk so much for one position on the starting grid. I have to admit that his drive on race day was exceptional and find it difficult to believe he wouldn’t have had a very good chance of winning if he had started from second position.

Maybe Ferrari/MS have learned a lesson

I like Jenson as a personality, but as a driver he seems to cave in under pressure, in testing and qualifying when things are going well he keeps it all together and gets good results (usually). Come race day he seems to let everyone past without much of a struggle and tends to go backwards instead of forwards.

Regarding commentating, when they were banned for three races last year and he did some commentating for ITV I actually thought he did a better job of that than the driving. I think his driver career will certainly change to a commentating one, probably sooner rather than later.

Re: F1 at Silverstone this weekend

How much money for tickets !!!!

You can tell I've never been to F1. I've been to lots of Motorbike racing in the past, but I'm one of those people who think you get to see the whole race course on the TV, vs just a small section at a track. APart from Thruxton....or is it Donington where from the main straight you can see across a dip to the otherside of the track ?

Re: F1 at Silverstone this weekend

I have never been on race day but have been to one of the many testing sessions that are run each year. These offer great value for money as they are totally free but you can never tell which, or indeed how many of the teams will turn up on the day.

If you go to the last testing at Silverstone before the actual race day, usually you will get a good turn out though. Well worth the trip in my opinion

I find Testing is the best way to see the cars, and TV is the best way to see the race.

Now if only I had a TV....

It's more complex than that I'm afraid.

All will be sorted when I move out in August.
