Ferrari or Ascari Jud
Can anybody tell me if this car is a Ferrari and if so which one or a Dallara Ascari Judd V10 from 1991.

Re: Ferrari or Ascari Jud
The Marlboro and Agip ads make me think Ferrari but that is not Ferrari red - on the the hand I'm fairly sure Dallara were into le Mans racing and not F1. Not much help I'm afraid.

Re: Ferrari or Ascari Jud
Too long ago for me too! I guess only the stopwatch will know.
On the Dallara web-site I found a reference to thier buildinG F1 CARS FROM 188-1993 for Scuderia Italia, and on their site was this: The F190 was a development of the previous car and not very competitive and so Dallara hired Nigel Cowperthwaite to design the 1991 car while Lucchini did a deal to run the new Judd V10 engine. Pirro was retained and JJ Lehto was signed up as his team mate. The Finn finished third in San Marino, Pirro added a point in Monaco and the team finished eighth in the Constructors' title. So maybe you should be looking not at Dallara, but Scuderia Italia. Or Ferrari!

Re: Ferrari or Ascari Jud
It's got barge boards in front of the side pod. They weren't introduced into F1 until McLaren started using them in 1993. It's too "smooth" for a '91 car anyway. Those cars had fairly blocky sidepods, more of a straight-line drop on the nose (this one is curved) and much taller rear wings.
Indeed, the rear wing not being as high as the top of the roll bar is a big clue. If I remember correctly, they were part of the post-1994 rules, introduced after Senna's death and designed to slow the cars down. The smaller, lower, rear wing wouldn't produce as much downforce as the bigger, taller, ones would. The 1994 Ferrari had a high nose with the front wing hanging from two pillars that dropped down from the nose, this car doesn't. That leads me to 1995, and the Ferrari 412-T2 Google Image Result for http://www.marksf1models.co.uk/Minichamps/Ferrari/950028med.jpg OK, thats a model, but thats also the best picture of the car I could find ![]() The stickers are all copyable, but they do match Alesi's car (27) and if you look very carefully, you can see a tiny bit of yellow on the tip of the nose, the same Ferrari badge you find on the bonnet of their road cars.

Re: Ferrari or Ascari Jud
Maybe trying to ID the driver from his helmet might be easier, and no, i haven't a clue!

Re: Ferrari or Ascari Jud
looking at the side of the car the driver's name (i think!) is Klaus Zwart who was big with ascari i'd hedge my bets on it's an ascari!

Re: Ferrari or Ascari Jud
Where and when exactly did you take the picture Gary? That might allow us to find an entry list, which would help in this quest.

Re: Ferrari or Ascari Jud
It helps a little.
http://www.msttiming.com/barc/2007/72022.pdf Thats the official timings for the event, and there aren't any Ferrari's there. The Team Ascari cars are modified Benetton's with Judd engines, and look nothing like that car (high nose, and from what I can tell, silver paint scheme.) But.... The "What is EuroBoss" page on their website has another pic of this car.. EuroBOSS.com - The 2007 EuroBOSS Website so it's got something to do with them (same helmet too) Looking a little more and I saw this.... EuroBOSS.com - The 2007 EuroBOSS Website Last picture at the bottom of the page, same car, same helmet, Klaas Zwart in a Ferrari. Perhaps he took it to Donington to show it off, rather than race. |
