I HAD SOME PROMISING NEWS TODAY. I APPLIED AWHILE AGO, TO AN ORGANIZATION CALLED FLYING FOR DISABLED. THEY SPONSOR DISABLED PEOPLE TO LEARN TO FLY, AND GET A PILOTS LICENSE. I HAD FORGOTTEN ALL ABOUT IT, UNTIL THIS MORNING WHEN I HAD A PHONE CALL. THEY SEND YOU TO SOUTH AFRICA, FOR SIX WEEKS TRAINING, AFTER WHICH , HOPEFULLY YOU GET YOUR PILOTS LICENSE.

I AM REALLY LOOKING FORWARD TO THIS, AS I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED TO LEARN TO FLY BUT NEVER BEEN ABLE TO AFFORD IT.

I HAVE JUMPED OUT OF MANY PERFECTLY GOOD PLANES, BUT NEVER GOT THE CHANCE TO FLY ONE. SO FINGERS CROSSED, I WON'T KNOW FOR A FEW MONTHS WHETHER I WILL BE ACCEPTED OR NOT, AS IT IS SUBJECT TO MEDICALS ETC. BUT I AM HOPING IT WILL BE OK

Oh, that sounds great! Never felt the need to jump out of perfectly sound airplanes but was offered a "go" at a helicopter which sadly never came about

I WAS IN THE PARACHUTE REGIMENT FOR SIX YEARS, I HAVE MADE HUNDREDS OF PARACHUTE JUMPS, WHICH I REALLY ENJOYED. I DONE MY LAST ONE ABOUT SEVENTEEN YEARS AGO, TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE MS CENTRE, WHICH MY WIFE ATTENDS, THIS WAS JUST BEFORE I HAD MY ACCIDENT.

AS I CAN NO LONGER SKY DIVE OR PARACHUTE, THIS I THINK WILL TAKE ME TO THE NEXT LEVEL, IT WILL BE SOMETHING I WILL BE ABLE TO DO.

WIFE NOT VERY HAPPY, BUT IT IS MY AMBITION TO DO THIS.

Good for you Woody.

A few weeks ago I was visiting the Red Arrows. They are one of the sponsors for this charity. By chance the Reds had set up a "corporate visit" for some disabled people who had just come back from South Africa so I had the chance to speak to them. They had all greatly enjoyed the experience. One lady had a fairly sever physical disability but had learned to fly OK and was planning to do more here once she had the medical clearence.

And before you get your hopes up too much they did not get to ride in one of the Hawks. Something I would love to do but never have.

ANTHRAQUINONE, IT MUST HAVE BEEN A NICE EXPERIENCE TO MEET THESE PEOPLE, THAT HAD BEEN TO SOUTH AFRICA, I AM SO PLEASED THAT PEOPLE , HOW EVER SEVERE THEIR DISABILITY IS, THEY HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE OPPORTUNITY TO FULFILL THEIR DREAM THROUGH THIS SPONSORSHIP.
