Re: flying with your camera

I think you'll get away with just about anything within reason.

Ryanair would'nt want to risk putting your kit in hold baggage.

Last year I took camera kit to Malta, which included my 350D, 2 lenses, filters, batteries and charger, cleaning kit and a few other things as well.

I reckon I will get away with the Lowepro Mini trecker and al it's contents this year.

Re: flying with your camera

I'm currently flying with Ryanair on average twice every 6 weeks. As my hand luggage I always have a Lowepro Mini Trekker filled with just about all my gear so I'd say you'll both have no problem.

I should also add that you should expect your camera bag to be searched at the airport, my bag usually gets opened at least 50% of the time, I guess lenses must look a bit suspicious to them.

HTH,

Iain.

I'd be more concerned about what they allow in Bournemouth.

Re: flying with your camera

I've never flown domestic, but there is usually a weight limit for cabin baggage - 5kg I think.

There is often a 'one bag' per person rule too.

Yep, your correct about the one bag per person rule. All the main domestic carriers do have a weight limit on cabin baggage (I believe it varies between companies, details are normally on their website) but it's something I've never personally had checked in over 6 years of flying almost every month, when asked if I have a bag to take onboard I just lift the strap that's slung over my shoulder and say yes.

Re: flying with your camera

If you are only talking hand luggage you'll have to leave your tripod at home. They will not allow that into the cabin as it could be used as a weapon

Re: flying with your camera

thanx guys, wasnt planning to take tripod ( will pinch a lone of Robs) my bag is a tamrac expidition 5 so not sure if its a bit bigger than a mini trekker.......... alan and the wee man will each have a bag with our clothes i get to take the important stuff! lol
and yer one piece per person and 5kg.
it costs £16 to check in a bag for the hold.......... kinda defeats the purpose of having free flights!

Re: flying with your camera

There shuldn't be any limits on the camera gear as such as there is not going to be anything liquid or whatever. If you do have a bottle of lens cleaner liquid or whatever then you can't take that with you. But you wouldn't need anything like that anyway.

No prob with you using my tripod, seems a fair swap as I will be wanting a go with the 10-22mm lens I assume you have confirmed the date now so let me know so I can make sure I have it in my diary and kept clear. I'll hold off from visiting Monkey World in summer then as I know you want to go out there.

Cheers,
Rob
