Looks interesting, as they'll be out with Paps testing a new camera that is a hybrid between Video camera & Stills camera. I'm sure I posted this would come along soon

Yes, I've seen this stuff talked about for a while now Dave. Whilst I can see the attraction for the happy snappy who grabs video of his kiddies from time to time, I can't see there being a viable hybrid of a quality camera with video, nor do i particularly see it as desirable.

Let's face it, the only thing that has made video camcorders less than desirable for taking photos thus far has been the low resolution of the sensor relative to what we would want. If you had a hybrid which used the same sensor, we'd be looking at a sensor that is at least 6 megapixels which would be WAY to high for video work. If it has two sensors, one for stills and one for video then it is nothing more than two cameras in one casing. I can take 'stills' with my camcorder already: they are nothing more than a single frame held for about 5 seconds or something and are only good enough for perhaps use on a website. No way would you ever print one out and be happy.

So my question has got to be this: just how desirable is a hybrid video and stills camera for genuine enthusiasts of either the video or stills genres?

Any thoughts?

Rob
