It's all going digital?!

Actually, was first in area to use CableTel, bought by NTL who were then bought by Virgin. Bought the cheapest TV package (what can I say, I'm cheap and it's all c**p - as long as I watch what I have to watch it's enough). But every few months I contact customer service:

"I guess you probably want to move us analogue customers to digital?"
"Yes"
"So there's an incentive to move?"
"No"
"Same price?"
"No, £10 per month more. But you get more TV channels. You interested?"
"Ummmm. I don't actually want more TV. No thanks"

They do, they do! Even when I had a problem and ended up speaking to the Technical Director (was back in CableTel days, just after installation)

Did the problem end up being legit, or did it turn out to be operator error? I mean, a "distinguished" gentleman such as yourself (not necessarily you, per say) may have some difficulties adapting to a technological learning curve.

Nah, was helped by the fact that I've always been in computers, so was a technical discussion. Prob was that telephone line was OK with voice but not data - had 6 engineers swarming around by the time they found the fault........... in the exchange!

Yeah, that's just a simple fix. One that should have been found as soon as they checked the line. No need for 6 engineers to stick their fingers in it.

I have had cable since it was first started here. It was Nynex first and then it became Cable & Wireless, then NTL and now it's Virgin Media!

But hey, you can get a digital top box from Tesco's for £19.97 and that will get you all the terrestrials plus a few more at no monthly cost. That includes BBC4 and the Genius of Photography starting in 1 hour 45 minutes <NUDGE>
