GrandParents of a different life time.
Can anyone tell me little tid bits about "Castletown, Isle of Man" and "Ottersfield Yorkshire" England. Are they poor parts of city's or middle class,,or, are they very old places that don't exist anymore?,,I have a set of 1st & 2nd great grandparents that raveled there before my grandparents came to the USA. I had an uncle that used to tease me about his Irish laugh but I don't see any old timers born in Ireland in my family records. Anything to add would be appreciated.

Ian,
Glad to see you couldn't discover info on Ottersfield; not just my poor "Googling" skills then? Brett |

Re: GrandParents of a different life time.
I found a reference to an Ellen Elizabeth Senior who was born in Ottersfield, Yorkshire on 2nd January 1858 so the place did exist. It's likely that Ottersfield is now a suburb of a larger conurbation.

Re: GrandParents of a different life time.
Stephano, That's one of them from my grandmothers side of the family, small world.
I am at work, but sure she was my first great grandmother, Mother of my grandmother Jenny May. Thanks for that, it sounds like the land scape has changed alot. But is the Isle of Man a place where maybe the Irish teaseing comes from, or is the Isle of man even related to Ireland? |

Re: GrandParents of a different life time.
B,
I'm astounded that the 1 link on Google relates to a member of your family!!! The odds!! It is said by some, that we Welsh would now be Irish if we could swim. ![]() |

Re: GrandParents of a different life time.
I know for sure it's this site that made me think of my uncle, very happy and playful old gent. But a funny trickster. I am thinking that my sister would know about the one link, she is a licenced geneolgist and lets her computer run 24-7. I am drawn to the stories and jorunals that people of that age and before left, family memebers have them as hand me downs and far off distant 4 and 8 times removed are the ones who want to read them. Not to mention the old pictures of the time.
I found out that Ellen Senior the daughter of Robert and Sarah of Shelly Yorks, left England before the turn of the last century "1900" with all there kids and settled in Payson Utah, where my Grandmother and mother were born, My sister did the research work and registered it with "who ever", I'm not good with this**,, back then there was like potato famine and then the Flu out break,,,I need history lessons....,,,,but what goes on with people in their life struggles interests me, it's funny all I wanted was to know about old towns. My Sister is quite the worker. Last edited by Boofers : 28-04-2007 at 00:45. Reason: Added search |
