Just wondering the popularity of Macs these day amongst Photographers, after reading article in News section on this site re new Mac laptops.

I know in the past Macs were always ahead in the graphical department, is that still true these days ? Those laptops do look nice mind you

I have two PC's and three Macs

Photoshop runs better on the Mac given the same RAM in both.

Overall is there much difference between the 2 these days. For example Noah why are you going for the mac(book), other than it looks sexy

For the average user, MacOSX is far friendlier than windows. For the advanced user it's much more powerful out of the box.

For example if IE crashes, then it takes out windows explorer etc etc. If Safari crashes, it doesn't take out anything else.

There are many reasons to go for a mac these days Apple - Get a Mac

If you're a gamer, then it's XP all the way (unless you buy an Intel Mac and can use bootcamp to run both) but for everything else then OSX is superior.

i'm going for the intel mac as then i can run XP with bootcamp if i need it as evilowl has mentioned tho i dont expect to be able to run games as the macbook has no dedicated graphics card. as a student i also get it for about 20% off (£643iirc) so it's a pretty good deal. and yeah it looks shiney and it will be nice having an operating system i dont have to re-install every 6 months

apparently there have been benchmarks run on the new intel macs showing xp to be faster too! tho i suspect this is mostly due to games and 3d mark and the like.

I am no more forced to use IE than you are Safari. To imply otherwise is disingenuous.

Actually thats a good point.

I know as a Windows user that we have the choice of software to use for internet surfing and that the people who use MAC's have Safari as standard which I am led to believe is very good, but is their 'other' software available or is it simply that Safari just works?

True, I was just using that as an example of the way that all Mac applications and processes run in their own seperate protected memory space.

IE is a special case due to MS anti-competative actions rather than any necessity in Windows itself.
