Hull and high water

I've got a lot of sympathy for people who suffer some unforseen tragedy but I'm not sure I like the idea of the taxpayer bailing out the people in Hull who couldn't be bothered to pay for home insurance.

As her indoors says, there's nothing wrong with passing the hat for them and I'm pretty sure I'd give if I saw a collection. What leaves a sour taste in my mouth is the demand by the leader of Hull city council that the rest of us should pay for their feklessness. Isn't there an argument that sorting things out for them will just make them less likely to pay for insurance in future?

Perhaps I'm just feeling crotchety.

Re: Hull and high water

I understand exactly what you are saying, I think that the problem is that many of these people can't afford the insurance, but for the people who can it must leave a bitter taste in their mouths as they will not be getting a hand out when the time comes and so why should they have paid for insurance!!!! kind of a catch 22 really.
