I had an interview today
I've worked for the same company for the last 18 years. I've had a variety of roles with the last 10 years have been IT based (mainly customer relationship type stuff as opposed to that techincal malarky). For one reason or another I seem to have managed to avoid the formal interview process as I have moved around.
Today I had an interview for a 'new' role, a proper interview. I had to give a presentation (on a set subject), answer a series of 'competency' based questions, talk about my aspirations and basically sell myself. None of which come 'easily' to me. Self promotion is just not me. I don't 'do' preparation, I find I work better at the last minute but for this I had to research and prepare and I had to self-promote (ick). All is fairly alien but I need a change, so have to put myself forward for opportunities as they arise. I'm now just thankful it's over! The last few days have been a blur with mind wandering all over the place and sleep interrupted with competency examples ![]() I was up at 4.30 to fly upto Manchester airport, then a drive over to the office, worked a normal day (with interview slotted in around lunchtime) and got home just before 10pm. To wind down, what better than a glass of wine and Pixalo! So, if nothing comes of this I am giving myself 10 out of 10 for effort. If I get the job I'll be pleased, if I don't get the job - that's cool too. It's been quite an interesting process to put myself through. I should know by the end of the week whether I have been successul (although gut-feeling thinks not )The last few days have been an out-of-comfort-zone experience. Tonight I am looking forward the comfort of my duvet! ![]() |

Re: I had an interview today
Good luck Ali. Just reading about all the effort made me feel tired. I am glad I am planning to retire soon and will not have to go through all that ever again

Re: I had an interview today
Nothing yet, but hopefully by the end of the week.
I would expected the successful candidate to know today to give them a chance to accept before telling the others they haven't got it... but you never know! |

Re: I had an interview today
Thanks all.
Found out earlier that despite giving an "excellent presentation" and being a "strong candidate" I was unsucessful. I'm surprised at how utterly peed off I am. Oh well, if its not meant to be, it not meant to be! |

Re: I had an interview today
If you haven't had an interview in years, to get this kind of positive feedback is excellent !!!
Take the positive feedback as a plus & know that you are now much more confident for future interviews |
